$20K more for a land cruiser?
If you had the chance, would you personally pay $20,000 more for a new landcruiser than a new 4runner (say trail premium). The current difference is about $34K. Reasons why would be appreciated. Thanks much!

I might have considered it at 10k. But when I was looking the difference between the runner I was looking at and the LC was actually closer to 40k and that was just completely out of consideration
At 20k I'd have more fun with the runner and 20k of modding over it's life time and ending up with a better/more personalized offroader in the end.

If I could get it with the twin-turbo 1VD-FTV, it might be worth it to me.
With the 3UR-FE, it's nice, but it just doesn't interest me.
You're the only one that can decide if it's worth the difference in cost.

New price is just not worth it IMO.This generation has always felt cheap for its price and the dated technology does not help.
Buying one of these used saves you from some depreciation and you are getting the same vehicle. I would take a new 4Runner TE over an LC 200 IMO. They are more interesting.

Thanks for the detailed information regarding the engines, I was not aware they offered different engine types in other parts of the world. Not sure why diesel engines are not more common in the US as it is in other parts of the world. It would be a nice option here.

At $20k, I certainly would. In fact, I said just that to my local dealer yesterday.
But that would put the LC squarely in Sequoia country, which i suppose is why the LC had to go a bit further upmarket. (Btw, I hated the sequoia and could not ring myself to consider it)
I went with the 4Runner because even though it may not have all the modern niceties, it's more capable than its competition (and it has everything I want/need). Once you get up to LC pricing, I suspect feature content trumps capability. The customers dropping that kind of coin are more apt to look at MB, Lexus, RR, etc.
I guess that's why we don't get the LC up in Canada anymore. We just didn't buy it. Too bad.

Oh come on...if you had the FINANCIAL FREEDOM to buy TLC200 for $30-40k more than 4runner, then NONE of you guys will get it?
Here is a good link with info: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/compar...ser-lx570.html
However, i do have reservations about the TLC200 back in '09: RANT by me: Toyota Land Cruiser/LX570
Still, if i had extra $30-40k laying around AND i had to spend it on a car, then yeah, i would get TLC200 over any 4runner. It is super quiet, super smooth. And since i do not hardcore off-road anymore, i love it!

Ok sure, if I had a secure 3 million in retirement saved up and 250k in my checking account and needed a new offroader... I might look at it
Frankly though... It's just seems too nice and "upscale" to offroad, just like a Range Rover. Heck I think the Limited runner is too nice looking to offroad.
Course I offroad a new(ish) '14 and other people thing that's way too nice to offroad too so... We all have a tendency (rationally) to think within our own means for the most part

Just speaking for myself, I had an FZJ 80, 20 years ago. It was nice, and a nice business tax write-off. But ultimately I decided I liked other types of vehicles in that price range, more.
IF we could get the LHD LC 200 with the twin-turbo Diesel such as is sold in Russia and elsewhere, I would be much more interested.
My Sister and brother in law go through cars faster than I buy new socks. I've driven a couple of the LX570's and 200 series Landcruiser's they've had. They are nice, but again, I like other vehicles in that price range more.
I barely drive the 4Runner I have now. A new Landcruiser wouldn't get any more usage. Maybe a little more if it were the Diesel.
Day in and day out, I'd still rather ride my Motorcycle, or drive my car. So an expensive SUV that I barely drive, is just not worth it to me.

Couldn't agree more. I can only imagine how epic my 4Runner would be if I dumped $20k into it. So much more win over a LC. An offroad trailer comes to mind. The first SAS 5th gen would be cool too.

Which would equate to a much better range between fill-ups. This is particularly important in a heavy Full-Time 4wd SUV that really guzzles fuel in the gas version, when driving off-road. Which means you either limit your exploring, or carry extra cans of gas. Either of those options bothers me, when I know the Diesel version can go so much farther on a tank of fuel. The gas engine is a little quieter, but I've always been a fan of a good running but not obnoxiously loud Turbo Diesel.
Basically it's just a matter of preference. In a heavy, Full-Time 4wd 'Cruiser, and for what I would want to use it for, I'd prefer the Diesel.
It's irrelevant anyway, because Toyota isn't likely to bring in a Diesel Landcruiser for a market where so few are sold.

I don't know...maybe if i lived somewhere else i agree. Here, regular gas is freaking cheap these days! Way cheaper than diesel.
Gasoline stations ALWAYS carry gasoline, no matter where you're at...old towns in the middle of nowhere to city. Gasoline stations SOMETIMES carry diesel...and this becomes more rare as you go away from cities and main highways.
Diesel may have great torque, but the TLC200 V8 isn't that anemic and provides great all-around performance, whether on highway (smoothness & passing) or on the trail (with low-range). I am not sure that i would say the same about diesel.
I am outdated i am sure, but the last diesel i read about on Toyotas overseas was not that great nor powerful.

And all of these mods will make it as fuel efficient as TLC200 or worst! You are putting all that weight & stress onto something that was designed for base 4runner.
It is like souping up a Honda Civic with $20k of stuff just to be BMW...yeah, it can be done, but do you want it or how long will it last?
Yeah, i know...i am a minority in having this view....
