How do you start your 4th Gen?
I couldn't find an existing thread on this, and I'm not sure what year Toyota implemented what I call "bump" start (I assume 2006). But how many of you crank the ignition to the start position for only a brief second and let go and let the ignition start the engine on it's own, and how many of you hold down the key in the start position until the engine starts?

I just use the "bump" start, mine's a 03 which was the first year for it I believe.

I flick the key and let go. But I do look like a fool when getting behind the wheel of something that is not my 4Runner, since it doesn't have this "feature".
Also, this "feature" will let you crank the starter if the engine is already running. You cannot "grind" the starter. Try it.
I could be wrong, but I believe it's called "crank and hold".

My '03 has it and I bump it. It is such a habit that when I get into other cars I forget to hold the key when starting it!

Ditto! I always have to remember to hold the key when I drive my wife's car.

I hold it until it starts. I know it will start if I let go (bump start) but a lot of other cars I drive do not do this. It's a habit and sine I have to drive other cars I'd rather just do it that way. Never really gave it much thought, though.

I bump it , both my toyotas have that feature and its great. My wife looks at me like Im stupid everytime I start her jeep and forget to hold the key. I also forget to push the clutch in in the wrangler so sometimes it jumps forward on me when I try to bump start it dont most modern cars have a clutch switch to keep that from happening? being that its a jeep the switch is probably broken .I would rather drive the toyotas anyway so ...

I bump it and like others I make a fool of myself whenever I start anything else. The smart start button in the 5th Gen Ltd is effectively the same thing - guess our standard option became a luxury.
