Man, I grew up with no car in the family--my parents didn't have one and neither did I, obviously. I didn't get my license and my first car until last year when I moved back from Korea after 8 years. Learned to drive in a CR-V and then bought my 4Runner. I have to take care of my baby because I'm not getting another car until I have the cash to pay for a new one. Don't get gifts and won't take out loans.

Went 50/50 because I still had my z28 to sell and that wasn't working out with CT winters.

Dad paid for it up front for 5k for us to share but I'm selfish and wanted it all to myself so a week later I bought it from him
So he went and bought an '05. His is faster, but mine is sexier(IMHO), more capable, and cost me less than half as much. I'm working my way up to the cost of his with Mods though.. so worth it!

Dad gave me his old 87 Mercedes when I turned 16. I crashed it, fixed it, sold it for $4000. Saved up the rest from Christmas money and working at In-N-Out, bought my destroyed 4Runner for $5500 5 days after I turned 17.
It's been a love affair ever since. I still remember when I bought a window motor on Valentines Day instead of a gift for my ex, car deserved it more lol
yes we broke up, wasn't ready to take on more than my precious 4Runner :P

I sold my lifted Ford Ranger sitting on 35's and bought a corolla because I needed something with great gas mileage(74 mile a day commute at the time). When my wife and I finally moved closer to our jobs in town I was longing for a truck to go wheeling again. My wife suggested I just drive the corolla and enjoy having to fill up only twice a month. Crazy turn of events...I was rear-ended one day on my way to work and they ended up writing the car off. Insurance cut me a check and I immediately went shopping for a Tacoma(always secretly loved the Toyota's more than my Ford). I came across a scREAming deal on a 4runner and the rest is history. I've been starting all over with modding this new 4x4 and can't seem to stop!

I got mine as my first car in 2005 it was my aunt's ...... :-) for a year or 2 and she harldy used it.. today it has over 117k and runs .... Almost like new. :-)
Recently my car was apparently "stolen" and I needed a new car immediately. So my stepdad and I looked around and I politely (as politely as i could...) Said I only wanted a 4runner. Well, we went to jeep, Honda, Nissan, infiniti, and of course Toyota. We drove the 4runner, fj, Honda pilot, jeep liberty, grand Cherokee, and no nissans because the mileage was AWFUL. Long story short, he didn't end up getting a 4runner :-( BUT 2 weeks later my car was found! It was the happiest day of my life and now I have my baby back and he actually kept the new car and traded his in for a motorcycle. I bet he's mad now that he didn't choose the 4runner!

I wanted a LC but didn't want a project or payment, so I started looking at Monteros. But I came across my T4R and basically stole it.
I could not be happier!

Hand-me-down from my parents. Not a bad one, if I say so myself.
