My first car was a 2 wheel drive yota pickup my mom got for me. First car I ever bought was a 85 4runner wheeler rig I picked up for 900. It was is pretty rough shape but a lot of fun. After a few years without one I missed the runner so much I had to get another. Hope you enjoy yours. They are great cars!
I went 50/50 with my parents and am paying them each month until i have it paid off. Hopefully I'll be done by the end of the year. They were happy to help because my mom had a 98 and drove it untill it died and loved every mile of it
Parents helped me with my first car and ever since then, I've been flipping my car every three years. So I put the money from the sale and money I saved up towards the next purchase. Even though my parents did not help me with my last purchase I still credit them for helping me out with my first car.
My 4Runner I purchased by myself. I've always tagged along with my dad when it came to purchasing vehicles since I was a kid. A different but good experience.

My neighbor sold his house and his 1st gen had been sitting next to his barn for several years and didn’t run. Knowing me, he asked if I was interested. Once I got it running, I fell in love. 22Re and a 5 speed for $500. Going to be a lot of fun.
I work the back parts counter at a Toyota dealership. I had an 88 Isuzu Trooper that sucked a valve. At that time, one of the techs in the shop just dropped a fresh 22RE into an '88 he had. He sold it to me for $3800---this was back in 2005.
I got lucky...I was broke at the time, but my father-in-law bought it for me.
My '97 I searched about a year on CL, found it local. Bought it from the original owner. I paid more than I wanted for the mileage, but it came with good complete service records. so I felt better about it
Looked for 6 months on craigslist and found many prospects. I visited a few found that they have alot conditions. I looked at in Texas and Colorado most were rusty. I watched New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Found my 98 in Phoenix, I drove from Albuquerque to get it. It has no rust and was in great condition for a 98. I bought it in May, went through it then took this adventure to Ouray CO. to drive Alpine loop June 15, 2017 I enjoyed the this so much I drive it when ever I can.
At 40 I was ready to buy my first new vehicle ever but alas, Quicksand was a one and done color, so I had to buy it "used"! Finance manager at Brent Brown Toyota in Ogden Utah drove it for all of 9 months....still making payments.....
