I did not go through all the posts so I apologize if this has been posted. Here is a link to an awesome, very detailed filter comparison from tacomaworld.com; Toyota Oil Filter (Made in Thailand) vs. the competition........ - Tacoma World Forums
I only use Toyota filters.

Purolator Pure One for my 3rd generation. I use K&N at times when I find them as a package deal with the oil.

For a while I was using whatever was 'on sale' at my LAS... in the oil change package. Oil and filter for $$29 or whatever it was for synth. They were usually Fram or Fram Duraguard.
Then I started buying Mobil 1 at Costco when it's on sale and stocking up... When I recently bought some parts at Camelback Toyota I was a few bucks shy of free shipping. So I ordered a case of filters. I think they ended up being like $3.50 a piece or something. Also picked up a case for my Corolla commuter too.

A decade later
As the OP that started this thread over 10 years ago, I'm just astounded and so happy that this poll/thread is still going with people still passing on their thoughts and tips. It just goes to show what a great community this can be when people are passionate about their hobbies and vehicles.

I read a very thorough filter comparison done by a fellow Honda Prelude enthusiast (That's what I've driven for the past decade or so) and he concluded that the Purolator PureOne was, hands-down, the best oil filter for our Honda motors. I've been using them ever since, and planned on using them for my new 2G 4Runner. I see a lot of people saying "Ohhh Toyota OEM is the best!" Is there any proof to back this up? I want the best for my delicate little 3VZE.
Edit - Welp, just found (and read) the comparison thread that someone posted a few pages back. Looks like I'll be switching to Toyota OEM.
