I bought mine just for the scoop (sort of plus it had the rear diff lock) and on the '99 3rd gens they not super common but now the floodgates are open. I do like the scoop on the 4th gens and now it's available on the Tacoma XRunners and the 4wd Sport package.
The scoop does draw envy from the non scooped crowd and I was even offered $500 to swap hoods with this guy I ran into at the parts store;I turned him down.

I like it. I bought the Sport because of the XREAS and the fact that the other Toyotas I've owned have been the best vehicles I've driven (even the real cheap ones!) My son will now be driving my old 4 door Corolla while in high school with all of its 120K+ miles on it. He begs me to drive the Runner everytime he leaves the house. However, the family knows the Runner is mine!

I have the SR5 and the one thing I wish I had was a hood scoop. When I bought mine I wanted the Sport, but my wife drives the runner most of the time, and she didn't really like it (the hood scoop), so we bought the SR5.

Thanks Momo, GatorGreg, Thai, Luxury. You guys are great mods and I as well as other members really appreciate you guys keeping this a fun and interactive group....
I am a mod on another forum (for emergency medicine www.studentdoctor.net), and I also have to put up with a lot of troll stuff. What a pita it can be! But it is worth it to keep the place in nice collegial atmosphere....
PS. I love the scoop on my rig.

I was not intentionally to buy a truck with hood scoop. As I said, it was XREAS made me to buy SE with hood scoop.
It was terrible. It blocks my view to see a bird drop on the hood when I am driving.
People looking at me and wonders why they don't have hood scoop.

I love the look of the scoop, and when I bought my Limited, it really ticked me off that you couldn't get one on a Limited.
So someday, I'm going to just buy a S.E. hood and install it on my limited.

This ripoff only to U.S. customers. Everywhere else the hood is only where it's needed, on Intercooled Turbodiesel versions.
By the way, the scoop on the Rav4 was also originally intended for the 2.2 D4D turbo direct injection diesel engine.

Do I like the hood scoop?? Hell yea!
I went to the dealer hell bent on buying the SR5, but while looking over the standard features of the Sport, I couldn't help but change my mind. I stopped my sales guy mid deal and said, Back up man I want a Scoop...um I mean Sport.

I like watching all the tools that pull up to me at stop lights in their sports cars, see the scoop and want to race. A guy at work didn't beleive me until we had lunch this week and some guy in a tuned out Lexus coupe with coffee can exhaust pulled up next to us at the light, saw the scoop and punched it when the light turned green before I even touched the gas. My buddy was laughing hysterically. This happens all the time with people in Mustangs, Vettes, you name it. Anyone else experience that?

Nope. Never once had anyone want to race me because of my hoodscoop.
Sports cars would kill 4Runners in a race anyway..... why would they even waste their gas? Or ours for that matter?

I drive offroad in my wrangler, but that's besides the point. A 3" high hood scoop shouldn't make a difference at all. That's ludicrous to think otherwise. Move your head an inch if it's in the way?
I'm not sure what you meant by that "heavy fog" comment, but if I'm driving in fog - beit light, heavy, or perfectly manageble weight - I would like to be able to see! Most all stock 55w fog lights don't help in any fog, unless you count the 5 feet in front of the vehicle that I previously mentioned. Check out your 4r stocks ones. Same thing. Travelling even 15-20mph is too fast if you have to rely on seeing something in the path of those lights: You've hit it by the time you see it.

So it seems that 8 out of 10 doctors who drive 4Runners recommend the hoodscoop!
Not a big surprise, especially considering that there are more Sport Edition owners on this board than Limited/SR5 owners.

Umm, that would imply that 54% didn't want the scoop. So I guess the 46% is wrong.
Personally, I just did not want the xreas.
Really I could go either way on the scoop; it's non functional, but sort of cool looking, so in the end I don't really care.
