Climate Control Panel Backlight
My climate control information panel is backlit when my lights are turned off but when I turn my headlights on the backlighting turns off.
Does anybody know of a solution for this problem? Thanks |
Your lights are burnt out, read the post I just put on this guys thread....

The lights are not burned out. The backlight works when my headlights are off.
|
There is no back lighting when your headlights are off. Mine burnt out in two parts, when my lights were on I could only read half of the panel, then they all burnt and I couldn't read any of it. I'm not positive but I think the numbers are always there, at night the back lighting comes on so you can read them. Go out with a flashlight and shine it on the panel at night, you should then be able to see them.

Mine seems to work opposite then. Beacause there is backlighting when the headlight are off. Are the instrument panel lights supposed to be on when the headlights are off because mine are on all of the time?

year? model?

2004 V6 Limited 4WD

I'm 99% sure there is no back lighting when your lights are off. There might appear to be, but I don't believe there is. I also do not have a limited so I could also be very wrong. But all threads(and there are a lot of them) about IP lights and clock/climate control lights not working is always bad bulbs. Maybe someone with a limited can chime in here??

That is what it looks like. I am 100% sure that my backlight is on with the car running and the lights off. I park in a garage and lights in the garage are off and car is running with the lights off the backlight is on.
|
I'm going with Presta on this one. I seriously doubt your panel is back lite when the headlights are off.
If it is, it shouldn't matter if the car is running or not. Either way its not a common problem so there's no easy fix. Maybe a couple pictures would help convince us non believers ;): |
SOrry guys, but it is backlit.
As long as the key is on the backlight comes on, when the lights are turned on it follows the instrument panel intensity setting from the rheostat.
Just verified this this morning on my 08 Sport. |

Yes, definitely back lit. I started it up in the garage (total darkness) and the backlight is obvious. You can't notice it in daylight.
Once you turn on the lights, the backlight dims and it's the instrument light brightness knob that controls the backlight. Just maybe the OP has the dash lights turned all the way down? |
Keep in mind that its very possible the wiring is different from the early to late 4th gens.
I know Toyota changed the wiring slightly and then came out with this TSB (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/tsb/10...provement.html) for the earlier models. Maybe that included other backlighting because when I get in my 4runner at night (no garage required) as long as I don't phyiscally turn the lights on I can start my truck and everything will remain dark. |
That sounds probable, I know in my 08 even with lights off, all instrument lights are on and intensity can be changed with the dash knob. The Climate Control is backlit but the intensity can only be changed with the lights on,

So if the OP's is wired like yours. Then all he has to do is get a couple new bulbs. Case closed.

Climate control panel doesn't light up at night
Hi everyone,
I know this thread is old, but I'm having the exact same problem as the original person that posted this. My mpg screen lights up fine as long as my headlights are off, but at night, when I turn the headlights on, the backlight on it turns off completely. Has anyone (or the original poster if by any chance he is still here) solved this? Thanks! |
This problem is real

I have the exact same problem as OP. I will attach images of the headlights off with both lcd screens backlit, and headlights on with only the radio backlit. LCDs are backlit during the day and off at night and the button lights won’t illuminate where the text is. I just replaced all the bulbs and this is how it works. Before replacing the bulbs the climate control lcd would never have backlighting. The first image is headlights off, the second is headlights on. Please send help for this very real issue
UPDATE SOLVED: I found that the dimmer switch for the days lights was disconnected. I reconnected it and everything works! I imagine if this is happening to anyone that the dimmer switch could be broken/disconnected. Hope this helps |
LCD light causing drain?
Is the LCD display on a 2007 4Runner supposed to stay on once I turn the car off and shut the door? My battery died a couple days ago, granted it was 3 years old, but now I’ve started to notice that the display that shows the time and gas mileage stays orange when I turn the car off. When I peek in the window it only shows the time but I want to know if that could be drawing power still and causing damage to my battery?
