Campteq Roof conversion for 5th gen 4R

I reached out to Campteq the other day an found out he is currently making a roof conversion for a 5th gen now. Waiting to see pics and pricing.

Anyone interested in this idea?

I've been wanting something like this forever. I'm sure I can't afford it.

I got a quote for $17,000 installed. I'm waiting for some pics of the first build. Crawling into the back from the driver's seat won't be as easy as a Troopy. I might try to find a good 15 year old LHD Troopy somewhere. Canada allows any vehicle to be imported as long as it's 15+ years old but I am definitely considering this.

Yeah, more than likely it really needs to be accessed from the rear of the truck, although I suppose in a pinch you could squeeze your way back there depending on what else is built out in the cargo area.

$17,000. FML. The want is strong though.

I've car camped in a couple of 4Runners quite a bit and it is a bit of a squeeze swinging around and getting in the back.

This is the ultimate but obviously can't get them here.

Yeah it's usually just the dog and I, so we sleep in the back. I've got a small platform to level it out when the back seats are down, and the fridge sits on one side, so it's enough room for us, but if the girl and the other dog comes along, all bets are off. I've got a RTT but that's a pain with the dogs, and they won't sleep away from us.

This would solve a lot of headaches for that situation...

At 78 I wish I could crawl up into one of those campers on my new 2024 TRD Off Road, but it looks like I'm still going to be looking for a Motel 6. Overlanding wasn't popular back in my early camping days, but it looks like something that would be fun to do, I had popups back in the day.
