Remote start options in 2024

Hi all

Searched some older threads as well as online in general. Looking to see what are the better options out there for remote start. I don't want anything that necessarily adds additional security. Ideally using the OEM fob to start (with the unlock/lock function still able to work once started) with an option for an app module would be great. Plug and play strongly preferred - don't want to splice anything if I don't have to.

I think 12 volt solutions has something that fits but it is a bit pricey all in. I think they just resell other brands as a bundle (EVO maybe?) that are pre-programmed.

Thanks!

I bought this one during black friday 4Runner 4th Gen Remote Start for 2003 - 2009 - Plug & Play - KEY START – Accessorides

It seemed to be better than 12 volt solutions according to the threads I read. Haven't installed it yet, but trying to do so by the end of the month.

I have used MPC for 6+ cars. Many are plug and play but for this car you may need to tie into some security stuff. Newer cars use the CAN bus. The link below shows 4 models depending on what you want. I like the 2 way as it can start my car parked in a parking garage while I'm sitting in my office and I know it's running. The price of these things has gone up a decent amount in the past few years but if you don't need much for distance then using the car fob may be good enough. Do read the details as some newer cars will shut off to open the doors which is a nuisance but still worth it.

This kit uses a Crimestopper and Fortin unit, both have been around for a long time and may be lifetime warranty. I got a new 2-way fob free recently because it died. Much of the wires pictured in this kit are not used. You can call them if you have more questions and the directions are quite good.

Before making a decision, I recommend researching each 1v1 lol option further to ensure compatibility with your vehicle and to read reviews from other users to gauge their experiences with installation and performance.

Edit: I read the title of “2024” and didn’t notice this was in the 4th Gen forum. The company may make a unit for the 4th gen. I know the other units we installed were in vehicles with a physical key, both working out great.

I really like this one I installed. It’s like factory, uses the stock fob, and has been 100% reliable. It took about 40 minutes to install, all plug & play, no cutting or crimping.

The only negative is it does turn off if you open a door, just like the OEM remote start. We liked it so much we’ve installed the same brand in my son’s Jeep JK, his sister’s Liberty, and I’ve recommended it to local friends who also like it.

Currently $199 @ Amazon

12v Solutions works for me

I've had 12v solutions in my 2007 for 5 years and its been working great. Install was not too bad was actually plug and play although I had to phone them as one photo was not clear and I plugged one lead into the wrong socket so it did not work. '

Range is pretty good with the long distance remotes which are OK but quality is a bit cheap. They give you 2 and he first one fell apart after 6months so I am using the second one currently. However if you need to get a new one they are super simple to program.

Price seems to have gone up for this kit now can't remember how much I paid I think it was $250 maybe less they are $398 now which is kinda pricey.

I use Idatastart with a 2 way remote. I have my professionally installed so cant comment on DIY install price or ease of install but his prices are good and ge comes to my house but it works well.

12 Volt Solutions Remote Start

Finally got around to installing remote start on 2023 4Runner last week. Installation was quite easy. My only comment on this, was in programming the module, step #3. It does take some time to perform this step. Need to be PATIENT. Maybe 2-3 minutes. Unit works as advertised. I have informed 12 Volt Solutions to add this to their instructions.
