Side Exit Exhaust - Worth Buying

Alright...I'm that guy...My OEM exhaust has starting showing signs of rust and looking at my latest "update" to the OEM (4 years ago) my resonator deleted side exist has holes in it...I didn't realize this damned exhaust is nearing $1k...WTH? So, with everyone's experience, what would you recommend? I don't give a crap about "name-brands" but I DO understand the "you get what you pay for" expectations. I don't need performance but I will never not go for it...I just want something that's going to work and not break the bank. I am about to cross to 102k miles on my beast intend on keeping it forever...or until it's in need of replacing! What would you do...?:painkiller:

Welp, after reading thru pages of threads of past experiences, it's sounds like Gibson is the route to take...are there any forum discounts that might be used through Gibson themselves? I haven't contacted them to ask yet...or, are there dealers or third-parties I could use? Here's what I'm eyeing: Gibson Performance Exhaust - Cat-Back Dual Sport Exhaust System, Aluminized #18816

How far up is it rusted? Can you have a muffler shop bend and weld a new exit piece?

LOSTR4 02-12-2024 07:23 PM

I can for sure...The part that is rusted through is what I had the muffler shop do...cut off the resonator and bend the exhaust to the side...I wasn't impressed by their work but perhaps that's the first place I should start...Good idea! Perhaps I'll just spend a few dollars on a new y-pipe in-lieu of the cat-back system...

I bought a used 5th gen exhaust for $250. Bolts right in and you get OEM quality.

I like that idea but I'm a v8...they still don't "bolt up," right? I could be wrong...

Stock V8 exhaust on V6?

Good call. Looks like it could work, but you’ll need to make some adjustments.

I too have a V8 and am thoroughly satisfied with the magnaflow I bought. It's not loud, but just loud enough for you to hear when you accelerate. Quiet at cruising speed, quiet at idle, and no drone.

I went with their "overland" version that exits right after the rear axle for $644 from Hottexhaust. Their side exit version is about the same price as the Gibson when you use their advertised promo code.

Good post to stumble into today because exhaust work is next on my list for my V8.. Only I'm pretty certain I have to replace the exhaust manifolds also...
