I just purchased a new Gen 5 TRD Off Road for the reasons on this video and videos from The Car Care Nut. Not saying what they say is there reason is the better choice, but don't think you can go wrong with 5 Gen $ Runner.

I have my doubts the 6th gen will be built as well or have the reliability of the 5th gen. I found a difference between the 4th and 5th gen. I like the interior of the 5th gen better but the 4.7 V8 in a 4R was a great combination.

As info comes out on the new 2025 4 Runner it looks like it is going to be a good vehicle, time will tell. For me I wanted the 2024 Old School model, so I'm happy with my choice. Don't really think you can go wrong with either model in the long run. My biggest reason for the 5th Gen model is not having the 2.4 Turbo engine.

People will dog the 2.4 just like they dogged not having a V8 in the 5th gen. We are a quarter of the way into the century and things change. The 2.4 will come with an iforce max (hyrbid / combined powertrain) option or they could all have them from factory.

I have an iforce max sequioa and a hybrid highlander in my family. The primary drivers were doubters of forced induction and electrification. Both absolutely love the combined power and efficiency of the powertrains and were primary factors for changing from previous vehicles. Test drives sold them.

To play devils advocate, Buying a new 5th gen when the 6th is so close seems like a huge risk of missing out on upgrades from a redesigned platform. Assuming the 2.4 will be anything other than an upgrade from the 4.0 is the biggest risk. We dont have full info and you could always just buy a 5th gen down the road. Like you said both will be great, those are some of my personal thoughts for holding onto my 2015 until we see more.

I agree with your thoughts on the 2.4 being a good engine, my personal thoughts on the 2.4 is the cost of repairs on down the line when the engine needs service and repairs, Turbos just need to be removed to work on them, causing higher repair bills and more labor charge. As far as getting a more updated vehicle in the 2025 and all the electronics you will get does nothing for me, but for some it will, remember many 4 Runner buyers buy because of its bare bones that will get the job done. I feel the Gen 5 vehicles will be a highly sot after vehicle and you can't go wrong with either. I also think the new Land Cruiser will defiantly bite into the new 2025 4 Runner sales and many who would buy the new 4 Runner will go to the new Land Cruiser, this will be interesting to see what happens. If this happens the Gen 5 models with retain the values even more as the new models are going to be much higher in price.

All good points. Just more rambling but I'm hoping the 6th gen comes in a non-hybrid / ifroce max configuration. The simplicity of the 5th gen would be a real selling point if you jump into a turbo & hybrid platform in one iteration. We've all seen the hybrid / EV vehicle prices crash as the mandated 8 year / 100k warranties get close to expiration. Toyota usually exceeds the mandate but would hate to see this on all 4runners.

Not sure if its confirmed but I believe the 2.4 turbo tacomas are requiring premium fuel. That would discourage some from upgrading if mpgs were only marginally better.

For the LC 250, I would love to hear toyotas marketing thoughts on where these vehicles fit or overlap in their lineup. 4Runner has to get the same treatment a tacoma where we see all options of the 2.4 (base, iforce & iforce max) strictly to allow for a budget option. Or maybe we will see no hybrid option in t4r to force the hybrid buyers into LC. Hope there are some fun surprises tonight.

It is confirmed that the 6th gen offers the 2.4L turbo in both hybrid and nonhybrid forms, just like the Tacoma.

It is confirmed that the 2.4L turbo in the Tacoma requires 87 octane, it does not require premium fuel.

Being all new, there's likely bugs to work out. Overall, I like the style inside and out. Will I go buy one to replace my '18? No. By the time I get my money's worth out of the '18... well, I won't. I'm too old. My grandkids will enjoy it for years after I'm gone.

Not long ago, the automotive press were salivating over the new Tacoma. Since then, reality is setting in. In a recent test at Motor Trend, the Tacoma came in second place to the new Ford Ranger due to deficiency in a few key areas. Might be the case in time with the new 4Runner, given there's a lot of Tacoma baked in.

I had a 2014 and was holding out to see the new design and I’m not digging it.

Exterior styling is kinda cool and all but I’m not liking how they copied the interior from the Tacoma. I get it, Toyota did this to keep production costs low but it’s lazy.

Going to let the 24’s come down in price a bit and buy that. 5thgenfolife

The more I’ve thought about it the more it makes sense to me. Look at the Sequoia, it’s always been a Tundra with a full body. Now they’re doing that with the 4Runner, the 4Runner is now a Tacoma with a full body.

This kinda makes sense given the Land Cruiser is now it’s own “unique” experience.

Totally agree with everything you said. I like when they all had their own unique interiors. Toyota isn't the only one doing that though

I am curious to know if the new taco/4runner seats will fit in the 5th gen model...they look more comfy
