Differential fluid change

I just changed the gear oil in my differentials this weeked. The drain bolt has a magnet in the middle and I was surprised to see so much 'gunk' stuck to it. Now I really am glad I changed it because at one point I was questioning whether it was worth it.

I used 75w-90 Amsoil gear oil and used two new crush washers and it was pretty easy (expected).

BTW gear oil F'N STINKS to holy hell :( . I felt like taking a shower when I was done.

Lastly I still have to do the transfer case next weekend.

All gear oil smells really bad. My wife can smell it even after I scrub my hands with gasoline and then soap. I plan on changing them once a year. I flipped my crush washers over and reused them. I will replace them next time.

What size of socket wrenches did you use for the entire job? Is it ok to reuse the washers?

I think I will change out the differential fluid this upcoming oil change. How much fluid did they hold each? Please post up if you remember

You will need a 10mm Hex Key or Allen driver for the front Diff along with 1.5 quarts of stinky stuff. A 15/16

If you want to save yourself some unnecessary work and cost you can use this every 100K miles.

To be honest I don't think I will ever do this again. I figured I would let all the break-in happen and then change to a synthetic (Amsoil, but not the one you linked to) and that would be good for a very long time.

This is "NEW" but is still changed at 100K miles.

Someone mentioned earlier touch up paint. What's the purpose of it?

A little nick or small scratch can be touched up with this paint. It is from Toyota and is in a like 1 ounce bottle with a small brush in the lid.

Please post up transfer case oil capacity when you change out the oil please! How many miles should the transfer case oil be changed at? Im thinking about doing it when I change out the diffs fluid. I currently have 24k should I be concerned about changing the transfer case oil?

thanks!

Front diff - 3 pints
Rear diff - 6.5 pints
Transfer case - 3 pints
