Pitbull Rescuer's New Project/Build Thread

Picked up another 3rd Gen this afternoon. This one is a 2000 SR5, 4x4, Imperial Jade Mica with Tan Leather. 202,000 miles.

Engine is in pieces, the short block is still bolted in, the heads and everything above them is in the cargo area. The guy I bought it from said it had been running okay but that he took it in to a shop for a CEL misfire code. That lead to the shop throwing parts at it, none of which fixed it. They said the exhaust came had come out of timing, that didn't fix it so then they claimed it needs rings in cylinder 3 & 5. We'll see. The cylinder walls are smooth as glass, I'm not so sure it needs rings. Debating on whether or not I'm (& YotaZach and whoever else wants to help) going to rebuild this or just drop a used motor in it. I'd love to send it to Singtoe for a 4.7 swap. :)

All in all I'm very pleased with buying it though. Should be a good project either way.

On to the pics:

First!

Dang dude, got enough 4runners? lol

This one looks like even more of a project than the last one! Look forward to seeing what you do with it!

Haha, yeah, I think I have enough now. LOL. Honestly, it's the last thing I needed to be buying right now, I just took a 5 figure beating on an investment I made. But this thing was too good of a deal to pass up (I think.) I need something to take my mind off the loss though, this should do.

How did you get it up there? I am guessing this was the one in DC...

Got it delivered. He was moving to CT today so I paid for him to rent a U-Haul trailer and he dropped it off at my house for me. Worked out very well. His replacement 4Runner is sweet too, he bought an '06 Sport Edition, it was clean as hell.

Been eyeing those. Saw a 2003 on eBay for around $8500. V8 though and increasing cost of gas price.

I don't know when you are going to get to it, but I will be up and around Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Susquehanna County/Binghampton all the time in the next two months if you find a good deal and want me to pick it up, I am avail.

Good luck with the build!

Thanks man. I actually got it today. Now I'm just trying to figure out what the hell to do about a motor for it. LOL.

tbst 04-09-2012 05:44 PM

That's what I was saying. If you find a good deal on a motor north of you and want me to drive over and check it out / pick it up, I am here to help. :)

Oh, my bad. Thank you, I appreciate that. I'll let you know what I find.

Looks good man! But I don't think that it's Evergreen Pearl, I think they stopped using that color after 98. It's probably Imperial Jade Mica ... or something similar.

Good luck on the motor job! Can't wait to see it done! :)

Do you miss your IJM that you sold? Or, did you steal this one for nothing?

Eitherway, always fun to watch you work...ha.

SantaCruzRunner 04-09-2012 06:19 PM

subed! cant wait to see how it goes!

FYI, your engine isn't in right. You might have to get that fixed...
I kid...I kid
Anyways, hope it turns out alright! Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing more.

PitbullRescuer 04-09-2012 06:21 PM

That's funny, I thought it was IJM too but was told Evergreen Pearl. I actually do think it's IJM, I'll have to go check the paint code now.

AZ4FNER, both actually. I really miss my '99 a lot. But this was a steal, I don't want to even say what I paid for this one.

I'm looking forward to getting this one started.

6Q7, Imperial Jade Mica it is. I like it even more now. ;)
