THE BUILD

I started this build with the idea that it'd be just a mild expedition setup. I don't plan on doing any heavy wheeling, but most of the mods are planned around being as capable as possible while still being mild mannered and retaining factory reliability/drivability. With that in mind, don't expect anything crazy here :)
Just trying not to throw more money at this thing.

Ummmmm......I Hate you! I want my Z back too! Yours looked CHERRY!

What are your plans for your Runner? Welcome to the family. Be sure to check out toyota120 as well. Bunch of us Bay Area people are always getting together for runs and stuff.

keeganxt 04-11-2012 10:30 AM

Very nice, eventually most people make the switch. Came from a WRX before my frontier, then my 4runner. Wish I could afford both...but regardless the mod bug is universal!

weeeee 04-16-2012 04:19 PM

Thanks guys, I wish I could've been able to keep both as they both have their pros and cons, but ultimately I needed something more practical and easier on the wallet, so I decided on the 4Runner. Eventually I'll probably pick up another one once their value goes down a bit...

harper7 04-16-2012 05:04 PM

The Z looked really nice weeee!!!!!
The good news is they make those exact same Volk rims to fit our 4Runners. Big bucks though!

Here is Stephanie's Trail Edition with Volk's in Bronze. Sweet wheels!

good choice on switching to the 4runner.

if you think about it, 94 octane for the 370z and 87 octane for the 4runner comes out to about the same price in terms of fuel expenses.

however,

you'll be able to go to a buncha places and do a buncha things that you couldn't in your 370z. atleast, thats what i tell my friends who own porsches :D

"i may not be able to go somewhere as fast as you but i sure as hell can go more places" is what i normally tell them.

weeeee 04-16-2012 06:10 PM

Harper, I don't think I'll go with TE37s again honestly...even if they are a bit cheaper than my old TE37 setup because of sizing (the 19" TE37 from the 370Z cost $3800 MSRP + another $1400 for the tires!)- this being a truck I don't want to have to worry about damage while dragging them through rocks, mud, etc. That's an awesome setup nonetheless and if I had the money I'd definitely spring for them again.

jca21, I agree wholeheartedly. My first week with the 4Runner, I've taken it to Napa for winetasting, a range up in the mountains for target shooting, and a snowboarding trip to Tahoe- none of which I could've done in the Z as I didn't want to risk damaging it or being able to fit my equipment/firearms/ammo in it.

jca21 04-16-2012 06:13 PM

i highly recommend getting a set of canvas back cargo liners as your first mod/purchase,

they definetly help protect the interior from loading and unloading stuff and look great.

RiDE 04-16-2012 09:11 PM

Congrats on the new 4R man. You are going to love it. I came from the import scene to and have already been/seen/experienced more with my 4R in the 4 months I've had it as oppose to the 14+ years/23 import cars I had. Totally different beasts.

Like Mikey mentioned, get on Toyota120.com. A good amount of us Bay area folks have been meeting up at least once a month to run Hollister Hills OHV. Hope to see you around.

bofa 04-16-2012 09:26 PM

Hah, that's pretty funny. I just sold my '08 350Z a month or so ago and we are about to trade in our Xterra for a white '12 SR5. I miss my car but I'm really looking forward to the T4R. Congrats on the purchase!

G8RB8_12SR5 11-22-2012 06:33 PM

I hate it when that happens. I feel ya though..have the mod bug and my wallet feels lighter and I haven't even started in earnest lol

weeeee 01-05-2015 04:25 PM

So after parting out my last 5th gen SR5 last year, I decided to give this another go. It was a little unplanned, but I can't complain :bigok:

Very nice truck! How was it coming from the sports car scene to the truck scene?

nguyenn 01-05-2015 05:24 PM

Great pickup man. I would have tried to keep both. Its good to have best of both worlds. ;-)

Mistaken 01-05-2015 05:46 PM

Nice Z! I had a couple of imports before the 4runner. I do miss my evo at times but for the most part I'm very happy with the change.
