Wadle5's Buildthread
The time has come for me to finally start putting together my build thread and what I have done to my truck thus far.
As she sits now http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/03...c42b0f5f87.jpg When I first brought her home in July of 2012 from Minnesota. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/21/7yma3a5a.jpg The first thing I did with the vehicle was driving it back up to Minnesota for a family vacation. But that wasnt before I found a little mud in it http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/pusunudu.jpg Almost to the canadian border and this was a great vehicle to roadtrip in. Getting Lost in the woods. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/u2yqeta5.jpg Next before hunting season was to get some A/T tires. While doing this I ended up going with some 265/70's http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/zeba5uqy.jpg Then I had to test them in some snow http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/vupugy9u.jpg Following this after helping my brother in law a couple weeks earlier I jumped on the plasti-dip wagon and started with my rear chrome. I then moved on to my front grille and lastly door handles and wheels. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/hu8aregu.jpg After owning my car for less then 4 months I was involved in an accident as an elderly man hit me head on at 5mph and dented my front bumper drivers side. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/zenyva4y.jpg With this excuse I then ordered my Shrockworks bumper in January so that I would have it in time for my vacation to Colorado, and also give me time to purchase and install the Adjustable Toytec Ultimate Lift kit. Speaking of which, after much research I pulled the trigger on a set of Toytec front and rear components. They were backordered on the front springs and for a discounted price I could upgrade to the adjustable coil-over package. Naturally I pulled out the credit card and ordered these bad boys. Since I upgraded and wanted to save some money I figured I should finally get to wrenching on my car. And decided to tackle the job on my own. And yes those are all the documents on torque specs and breaking down the front end suspension components all over the hood of my car. All be honest I was nervous and OVER RESEARCHING this. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/azy2y2ar.jpg Was interesting to say the least and with the amount of corrosion I can say that PB blaster was my friend. After several seized bolts(2 busted) and 7 hours I had the front suspension installed. [IMG]http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/uqadurem.jpgWhich I will note one of the hardest parts was uninstalling the factory bolts on the top hat. Smallest area wedged in between the engine bay and top of the wheel well(insanely small hands came in handy here). http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/u2u9ureh.jpg After all of this and taking longer then imagined we called it a weekend and left the rear stock to tackle the following week. So for a week I drove my rig looking like this with its rear dragging http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/e2ygutej.jpg The following weekend we installed the rear lift kit shocks and springs. Went with Billies and the stiffer Toytec rear Springs. Went a lot quicker and boy did I love the stance this made. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/8uqa2a7e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/a8ypadu2.jpg Following this in April I finally installed my Christmas present as it was nice enough outside and put on my 3M WADE window visors http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/ju4e2upe.jpg Thanks for the great looking T4R logos @momo.75 . Loved the color choice and how they worked with my car! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/ame3a8e8.jpg Upon completing my vehicle components and everything I had available I received a very large pallet from an 18 wheeler in my driveway http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/a2eveze2.jpg Shrockworks packaged and shipped this great product and I must say I struggeled to get it off the Semi and in the back of my Dads truck. .and while doing this one of the support beams I was using to move and lift it came loose and ended up dropping this beast on my foot. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/avu5umah.jpg. So one swollen toe and broken toe nail later I called up my buddies and that weekend, pretty simply we got it installed. Dont worry the guy in the yellow shirt knows what he is doing...he drives a Heep?! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/erasu3u3.jpg Lunch break wondering what the T4R would look like with no bumper and the hood down, eh I would still drive it http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/esuja4en.jpg What I dont have pictures of but is one of my favorite mods would be the $20 LED interior cabin lights package off of Amazon. Easy and quick install and haven't had troubles since I did it. Also I did the TPMS bypass(http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-ge...pass-tpms.html). Worked like a charm and haven't looked back. The light was on when I bought it and the dealership said they already had all the sensors checked and replaced them all. Thanks @txt4r for this easy to follow write up to this idiot light. Without it I now just check my tires regularly(you know like the good old days before we had all these computer nannies and warning lights. |
About time we see this bumper on her. Looks great and looking forward to the rest of the mysteries of this build.

Needless to say I thought it looked mean and worked even better with the lights I got from the Hanama group buy thanks
@gaterose
.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/5usagehy.jpg I had to take it on a washboard road to do a shakedown test. End result I found mud and the bumper stayed on http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/adevenah.jpg Not much later I came across a steal on Craigslist and thanks to @Mytoy4 I was able to steal a set of factory FJ wheels and lugs and locking lug nuts. Even better she was driving through my hometown and dropped them off for me. And it is for this reason I love T4R. She asked for nothing in return and only to pass on the good deed to someone else. So basically you people need to check Iowa craigslist and let me know for I often travel to KC, Omaha, and Minnesota! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/evu8u3em.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/gybuseza.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/21/e2use7u3.jpg Since I had the front skids off to fit the bumper I figured I might as well sand it down and hit them with some black high temperature header paint. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/pany4yse.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/agegene7.jpg The following are just some pictures that I have taken along the way with my rig. I mean my car has a battery can I park in the electric spot then? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/hu2ynaqy.jpg At a local car meet and my body had his HDR out. Yes I know I should have put my skids back on so you wouldnt see those clean looking diff drop spacer kit http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/e9u4upus.jpg Tackling mountains and mud in Breckenridge on family vacation Stuffing the rear http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/su7ave7a.jpg Flexing the rear with the slopes of Breckenridge in the background http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/enu3e5an.jpg Climbing up the easy part of the trail http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/a7uzydy4.jpg Turn around http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/8utuhymu.jpg Panoramic at the top of the mountain http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/ynape5yn.jpg High speed camera while pushing some mud. Good thing my sister is a professional photographer http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/a3eqagaz.jpg 12 hours of straight driving and we made it home http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/7e6uhysu.jpg I need to give it a deep clean now the windshield and bumper were covered in bugs. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/27/y4y4etu4.jpg |

That's a real cute rig there. Be careful though, that mud looked pretty treacherous. :laugh:
