Load Range E tires only make sense for rigs that see a ton of off road time or SHTF rigs. If yours is a daily driver where MPGs matter, don't get E range tires.

Do you need a load range E? I would expect if you need a load range E you have upgraded your springs to heavy load capacity and doing some heavy loads.. But based in your suspension thread you are just doing the super common Bilstein 5100's.
I can appreciate your thinking that you are doing something so different that these items have not been discussed. But both threads ended with the super common options... With that in mind I will vote for the ever popular Cooper AT3. No reason for us to reinvent the wheel. Don't take my post the wrong way. I posted a thread yesterday that I know will harbor mixed results/opinions. |
Google images is my favorite way to look at tires. Type in what you want to see "Toyo AT 2" maybe even size or type of vehicle and search images. You will see all kinds of pics, click on pics and see reviews. Will open up lots of conversations on everything.

IMO and what I have heard from others that the best tire depends heavily on what you plan on doing with it. For me, I need an AT tire that will survive highway use with good ride and low noise. For that the best options are the Michelins and the Good Year silent armors. I am going with the silent armors because they look cool and they have the word silent in the name. So they had better not be loud.... |

I just had E's installed on my rig last Thursday. Very long story short, the exact tire I wanted only came in load range E. The install shop notified me the day of install and asked if I still wanted them. In research, I read they would cause a stiffer ride but I told them to go with them anyway. The ride quality of my 4R is now substantially BETTER than it was before. I couldn't be happier.
That's the short story. Now, two things to consider: 1. I read E tires are typically inflated to higher psi than C and D range. When I asked the shop about it, they said to always inflate my tires to factory psi specs (inside door jam). Don't know what it is, but it's less than what I read for E range. That may promote a softer ride. Whether it's good for the tire or not, I didn't look that far into it. 2. I also lifted my 4R 2.5" with the basic Bilstein 5100's and new springs. This may also promote a softer ride, although everything I read said it would give my truck a stiffer ride. Bottom line, I was anticipating a very stiff ride with the E's and it turned out great. My ride is now A LOT more comfortable than it was before. ALSO, my factory 18" limited wheels and silent armor tires are still FS in the classifieds. JUST SAYING!! |

I also went to a Load E tire with my bfgoodrich KO's, ride is as good if not better than my previous tires, 275.70.18 bfg rugged trail ta, a regular tire iirc. I was expecting a rough ride too. My psi right now is at 44psi, ride is good. :) |
I'm running the E-load Nitto Terras on my truck right now and I hate them. Horribly heavy and uncomfortable (bad mpg's with a 50lb 31" tire), and not particularly good off road. They're pretty common around here because they have the lightening bolts on the sidewalls, but I love my brother's AT3s way better. Next set of tires, I'm going to go with p-rated AT3 for commuting and some bigger km2s for trails.

I have done 3 pairs on my last three trucks and loved the Terra Grapplers!! Cant believe they get no love here. I guess they are just too heavy and still for a lighter SUV??
And KO's are just too much. Another $200 more than most tires. |
I don't see much of a fuel difference with my 33s. Might be that I have a v8, in the last 8000 miles I have done a ton of maintainance, plugs, both cats, all four o2 sensors, maf and tb/wp. I like the terra grappler ride, live the trail grappler look. Food for thought, KO's probably will dry rot before it wears out.
