4runner owners in Europe...
Hej, I am wondering how many European 4Runner owners there are here? And i was wondering your local Toyota garage is doing maintenance on your car, but is he realy knowing what he is doing, why I ask is, I live in Sweden, and asked Toyota Sweden if I by a 4Runner, will my local garage do the maintenance right? And do they have spare parts?
The answer was that they know not much about this car and the parts wil take long to get in Sweden, have to import from the USA... Please what is your experience with this in your country, in Europe, and is your local garage able to do maintenance on this beauty! A warm greeting Okky |
Hi I am English, but living in France. Better weather, less traffic, more space.
Anyhow to return to your question,I have just bought a 1992 2tl engine 4Runner. I have no experience of the dealers here, as I carry out my own repairs servicing. To date I have found all the parts I required via the internet, eBay, France being especially useful. As far as I can tell the earlier series are not complicated, and with the aid of a Workshop Manual. Haynes supply an English version, not sure about other languages you should be able to keep her in good spirits. Remember Toyotas have an enviable reputation for reliability and strength. So if you are mechanically minded, I'm sure you will be able to get by. ATVB John Daniells |
I do all my work myself, (apart from alignment, rebuilding gearboxes and diffs and painting) but get my parts form the local Toyota Dealer.
Last time I went to my dealership one of the mechanics shot out and started asking me about my truck, so at least they are interested! If you can't do the work yourself, you ar eprobably better off finding a 4x4 specialist.. ideall one that is a Toyota specialist.. there are a few of them dotted about. |
Have had a 99/2000ish 4-Runner here in the UK (Cali import) for 10 years. It wants only servicing and is way more reliable than previous Merc. All parts available at local Toyota dealer at great prices, even a Yuasa battery. Just coming up to 100k miles. I saw a silver one a few years ago in Legoland or Thorpe Park car park. Anybody else in Europe??

4th Gen in England
I know this is an older thread, but I've had my 4th gen in England for a little over two years now, and have only been disappointed with the local Toyota dealer. I had a problem with the A/C, and they offered to check the fuses but wouldn't do anything else. The thought of contacting Toyota USA for troubleshooting instructions or manuals apparently didn't even cross their mind, it was just "oh well, that American stuff is different and we don't know."

The Dutch T4R
Hello fellow 4Runner lovers,
We, my wife and I, bought a 3rd gen 4Runner only a few weeks ago in Germany. Is has been shipped there by a US family who did not want to take it back with them :) It is a 1997 build Ltd edition with only 61k mls on it. Has Dutch plates now, professionally cleaned inside and ready for a full service and change of all fluids. We would like to build an overlander, small lift, BGF KOII and a roof rack with tent. Any one goin to Bad Kissingen in june, Germany for the biggen off-road event of the year? Best, Jelmer. |
UK - 5th Gen 4Runner SR5 4x4 - Headlight Help!
Hello 4Runner Owners in Europe.
I can recommend workshops for Side Repeaters and Fog Lamp fitting, but I can't find ANYWHERE to mod my Headlights for the UK's Left Hand Drive roads! Just imported a 2016 4Runner SR5 4x4 from the US to London, England, and trying to get it Road Legal for UK Registration. Can anyone recommend a Mechanic Shop or DIY mod to adjust my Headlights for UK roads? Cheers, David H |

We are considering taking our 5th Gen from the US to Sweden when we move there next year. Might anyone know of the modifications we need to make to make it EU/Sweden compliant, and where we can much such alterations? Off the top of my head I can think of:
Odometer conversion from MPH to KPH Emissions standards if not already up to par Lighting |
