Front diff drop
 

I ordered an OME lift kit back before Thanksgiving. I just now opened the boxes and noticed the front diff drop was not included. I did order the front diff drop as well.

My question is.....can I drive the 4Runner without it for a week or so assuming I will be driving on pavement only? If not, I guess I'm not installing the lift today.

Yes, you can install the lift now and add the drop later. No biggie, just make sure you get it in or your cv could start to tear.

How high of lift did you go? I opted not to install mine but I'm only lifted 2.5 inches all around. Didn't really need it and the angles look good and the boot doesn't rub. I've read mixed opinions on whether its beneficial or dentramental at my height. I'm keeping a close eye on it.

Plenty of people never install a diff drop. I have it, but I remember when I installed it, I was surprised how it really doesn't make any difference.

Isn't the "diff drop" just two spacers on the front mounts? Or is it more?

If that IS the case, I really don't see how the spacers could really "drop" it. If the rear/sides mounts stay the same, I guess it would just roll the diff a little. I say a little, cause the front mounts are not directly above the diff- they're extended forward. So, when you consider the arc/leverage of the mounts, it seems like a 1" spacer might lower the diff- I don't know- 3/8-1/2"? Maybe call it a "diff roll kit" ;)

If anyone has actual before and after measurement PICTURES, I would love to see the findings.

Oh, and to the OP-
As for my own experience, while driving, I have a noise that I am confident is the axles being at too big of an angle. It's not something I am comfortable with, but I'm sure many guys just run em like that. I have toytec coil and strut spacers("3" total lift") and no diff drop.

That's exactly what it does, it just rolls it.

Gotta hand it to someone to find a way to make money off of spacers that don't really do anything.

Does anyone know if there is any detriment to doing the diff drop? I am considering either OME 880/906 or 881/890, assuming with the 881/890 I'd have to do the drop and with the 880/906 I would not have to do it. I have heard that by dropping the diff you can wearout some kind of pivot bearing? However I haven't really seen anyone complaining about this. Also I've heard that the drop brackets make it so you cant get the oem skid plate back on? Anyone have any comments on this? (Sorry for hi-jacking, just don't want to start another thread)
