Can the Keyless entry "BEEP" and "BEEP,BEEP" be turned off?

I know some of you probably don't mind it, but it drives me nuts. I don't even really like to use my keyless entry, b/c of that BEEP that is produced affirming I've pushed the button to unlock or lock my doors. You have to be so close to the vehicle anyway for it to even work, I wouldn't "accidentally" set it off. I had a '95 T4R w/ factory keyless entry (at least I thought it was factory installed, may not have been) but it didn't make that BEEP. All you heard was the doors locking and unlocking. So my question is, can that BEEP be turned off? I've considered having an aftermarket keyless entry installed, but when I asked about not wanting to have an affirming BEEP, they informed me, it's my horn and that cannot be deactivated? So does that mean I'm stuck w/ the BEEP for ever?

These functions can be modified by the stealer (or a garage with the right scanner.) I had the flashing lights turned off but retained the beep on my 4th Gen. The stealer called it "set custom body functions" on the work order.

Not sure if I have the Toyota VIP RS3000 alarm, (my remote has 4 buttons, (LOCK, UNLOCK, Roll Down Rear Window, and PANIC on the back of the remote) but I'll try disarming the BEEP as they described in the
Manual at lunch today.

Well, I just realized, I don't have a factory alarm on my 4Runner, just keyless entry. So I cannot change the code in the remote since I don't have the alarm indicator light. However, I did read through my owner's manual, and it said if I was not satisfied w/ the volume of the "BEEP", I should contact a Toy Dealership and they can "lower" the volume. I hope that when they say "lower" they mean MUTE the beep. It'll probably come w/ a price, but I'll post an update when I find out. Thanks

I have a similar question. I have a 98 4Runner. My keyless entry remote has 3 buttons on it though, unlock, lock, and a green button (what does the green button do?). Also what does the red push button on the dash do? Is that for valet mode?

I like my horn to beep when i lock or unlock the car but, sometimes it does and sometimes it does'ent. Is this just the battery getting weak or is there a way to turn the horn on or off? I looked at the link above but that does not look like my remote.

Thanks,
Ben

If the stealership charges a lot for this....most aftermarket security install shops should know how to program the stock alarm / keyless Entry cpu's.

DISCLAIMER I'm not 100% certain on the transmitter or alarm that the dealership had installed on your vehicle. This info is simply from past experiences with car - Alarms

Normally - the 3rd or extra button is an Auxillary buton. It's so you can program an option (roll back window down, remote starter, or Panic alarm)

Red Button? If it is kind of hidden - then yes, it's the valet switch.

Not 100% certain - but it could have been programmed to have a "silent" chirp.

Basically, its used for those 1 time that you DO NOT want the alarm to beep on or off.

Usually, you can activate silent chirp by pressing an auxillary button right before pressing the lock/unlock button.

Mine DOESNT go off most the time either. I haven't figured out a pattern if there is any when it does go off. I wish it would go off all the time though, that way I could hear the when it was unlocked or locked easier.

Called the Dealer close to me b/c I've got a buddy in service (and it parts, always nice to get discounts on toyota parts) and he said the volume can be lowered, but it tricky to get it just the way you want it. I told him I just want it muted and he said it's easier to mute it than lower the volume to my liking. He told me to bring it by tomorrow after I get off and he'll get a tech to stay late and mute it for me. I think he said it cost $30.00. I'll let you know the outcome.
