3rd gen suspension suggestions?
 

im thinking of getting my third gen the toytec boss suspension or the ultimate lift, does anyone have this set up? how does it ride? pros cons?
feel free to give me suggestions on other set ups

What kind of driving do you plan on doing? Is it a DD and a off-road truck?

Both! :). so im looking for something that's comfortable to drive on the daily, but also to take it wheeling on the weekends

There's a whole lot of subjectivity to what is "comfortable" to one and unbearable to others. Some have returned billsteins because they thought they were way too stiff for daily driving, and others love them.

If you are planning on lifting, I'm not sure if there's any soft shocks or struts out there. Others might chime in and be able to compare the different brands and one might be a bit softer, but for the most part your suspension will be stiff, which is what is preferred for wheeling.

If you are adding a mild or no lift, KYB's are a bit of a middle road which is what I currently have. The stock Tokico's are actually pretty good and fairly cheap to replace, you just can't lift with them since they are too short. They are the best for daily driving as far as shock absorption goes and give that "luxury" feel.

Ironically, I found the adjustable Billies to be way soft and super comfortable.

At the end of the day, if you want a off-road truck you will want the money in on a solid set of coilovers, i.e: Icon, Camburg, Fox (2.5 not 2.0), maybe even Radflo (if you have piles of cash), and so on. If you want a decent entry level I'd send you towards the OME set-up. I personally think the entry level set-ups are all comparable and you should just read through the earlier posted thread for a run down on many of the options.

I see your in Vegas. You should check out the Vegas FJ Cruiser page. They usually have a lot of trips through out the year and are very welcoming to other vehicle types.

I have the toytec boss w/ 600lb coils up front & OME 890s in the rear on a stock set up and it rides really well as my DD. It feels slightly stiffer (in a good way) compared to the factory suspension. Toytec also offers the 550lb front coils if you wanted something a little softer. When I called them, they told me that the 550 coils would feel closer to how the factory suspension feels and the 600 would be a little stiffer but would handle turns slightly better & have less body roll & I'd have to say they were pretty accurate in how they described it. I have driven a 3rd gen with the toytec ultimate set up & I couldn't tell the difference. The ultimate I drove had the same front and rear coils that I have but don't remember which shocks they had in the rear. I went with the boss mainly bc toytec said it would have a slightly better street ride then the ultimate. But like I said, I couldn't tell a difference between the two. The ultimate is a little cheaper so you may want to take that into consideration.

I have the Toytec Ultimate Lift with the Eibach 600# silvers and the 5100's in the front with adjustable UCA's and 1" diff drop. Running the OME springs and OME sport Shocks in the rear and love the ride and the way it sits.

It's a recreational off road vehicle and spends time on the highway as well. The ride is not too stiff with the 600# springs. I'm adding a schrockworks bumper and winch and the guys at Toytec said the 600# springs will do just fine. 650's are really stiff.

Decided to go with the Toyo ATII's 4ply's in a 285/70R/17 inch wheel instead of a 285/75/16. Both are at 32.8" but the larger wheel size adds more stability (less rubber) than the the 16" wheel. You'll notice the difference mostly on the highway during those windy days. I think i have an A+ set up for the driving that I do. Like all before me have said, depends on what you plan on doing. There are a ton of options out there and different flavors for everyone.

Just to answer your original posting - Yes I have the Toytec Ultimate and am extremely pleased with the ride - on and off road.

anyone have experience with these and know how much lift they give under a significant load?

my old 3" toytec suspension lift in the rear shows significant sag when I'm loaded up for trip.
