Captains chairs in new 4Runner?

I am new to this forum. Hello all. I have owned a few 4 runners and I'm currently looking to buy a new one. Is it possible to get the 2nd row bench replaced after market? I really love that option for my kids. I know the highlander has it and my husband has told me to look at that. But I'm a 4Runner girl and I don't like the highlander as much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jamie

anything possible with $$$$$ but no there is not currently an option. the center folds down and my kids climb though all the time

The 4Runner 2nd row is 40/60 split. Maybe research to see if you can take out the 60 side, and put in another 40.... and leaving the middle 20 open....

Any specific reason you want the captains chairs? The middle comes down has a armrest/cup holder for a buffer and each side of the bench reclines a little.

only problem is the 40 side is driver side... not sure how that would line up on the pass side.... good idea though

My 40 is on my passenger side..... then mine plus yours will work!!

Its an un-vetted idea. Some cars are designed for left side driver as well as right side driver version, and internal features are also mirror-able. That's an idea that they can explore. Looking at the detailed service manual/info that are posted on this site can be their first step.

ah you are right... the 40 is on the pass side... just reverse what I said lol

Thank you all for your response. I just think it's easier to get to the back. Perhaps the center folding down is enough as you've said.

There isn't a "Captain's Chair" option for the 4Runner, you'd have to have one custom fabricated and upholstered. Not entirely sure you could swap over say a Highlander's seats either.

On the 4Runners, I found the way they fold down to be pretty nice; if you just flip the front cushion up and pop the seat back its more room than a Highlander's Captain Chair folding forward.

My 40 is on the drivers side, had it down today.

Yep. Same here - smaller seat is on the driver's side. ('13 SR5 with Convenience Package and Leather Upgrade). I wonder why some are reversed? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it seems a "hodge-podged" 40/40 is possible if that's what you want...

Not really, the mounting points wouldn't line up.

I didn't check when I had the interior ripped out, but if some rear-seat split arrangements are opposite others, isn't it likely the mounting provisions exist for both arrangements (60/40 or 40/60). Or are our trucks really built that differently at the factory from option-to-option (like the wiring apparently is)?

IMO - It's strange in general that some are flipped. Could it be 3rd row related? (I don't have 3rd row)

Thanks all. I'll have to find someone near at louis that could potentially do that.,if I have at least two car seats in the middle row, folding the seat down becomes a bigger challenge than when it's empty.

My 40 is on my side(drivers), interesting. My son always sits behind me so I can maximize my back room and for personal reason =)
