Yukon Grizzly locker

Just curious if anyone is running this on the rear. Specifically for full time 4wd trucks. I'm curious how much binding/noise they produce for on road use. These are suppose to be much smoother than Detroits.
I was gonna go for a truetrac but the price on this is very comparable.

Well..I decided to pull the trigger on the Grizzly locker. I think everybody overlook automatic lockers on newer rigs due to the noise & street drivability. I've done some research but it seems that its only popular with the Jeep crowd.

As far as how it drives. Very surprising. It seems to lock & unlock properly when taking a turn. I can definitely control how it locks/unlocks in a turn depending on how much throttle I use. Best part of all, NO NOISE! It doesn't bind when taking a turn, even on wet roads. I think Yukon took the Detroit design and improved it by a mile!
If you are in a budget, I would strongly recommend this. It was on sale a Marlin last month for under $500. I re-used my old carrier bearings. No extra parts. My truck is full-time 4wd. I dont know how different it would be on part-time.
*Hope this helps somebody!

Install was straight forward. I pulled the 3rd member out & had someone I know install the carrier. Took him a couple hours or so. Wasn't too bad since the pinion was left alone.

Do these require special oil or additives?

who done it 11-13-2015 10:51 AM

I know this is off topic, but RaceTrack your truck looks sickkkk. Thanks for the info on these, might do this instead of ARB now. Ok back to being a corporate monkey.

Sorry to get off topic, OP, where did you get those window deflectors? 've been looking for a set like that with no luck... Thanks!

Not at all, they did mention it on the Yukon site that if it gets too chattery to use additives but so far with plain dino 80w90 oil, no problems. I am just letting it wear in a little & will be switching to motul synthetic.

They are the original accessory option when it was brand new. Its actually fading into purple-ish now but still intact.

I was just looking at different options today. Was delusionally thinking about a spool, I do to much street driving, and was looking at what else is out there. So much money for something so simple! Argh :toilet:

RaceTRaCk 11-16-2015 02:14 AM

Spool would be too crazy for street for sure but yea I agree with you, that's why I couldn't fork out over a grand for an arb (plus our canadian $$ is so bad).
I tested it out on a patch of dirt near my place yesterday. It definitely works, turning can be a bit tricky as when I lock the center diff, it does not disengage when turning or idling. Simple enough though, if I unlock the center diff, then the locker acts a differential again. In a way, I could control it that way. I will get a full test run at it next weekend.

Had thought about going Aussie locker in the rear. Any reason you choose Yukon Grizzly vs the competition?
