Opinions on a GX purchase

Looking for a GX and saw these 2, wondering what GX owners think/ also besides the dark the wood grain any other way to identify a KDSS equipped version without seeing it in person. The first one is a one owner, I believe it has KDSS but not certain, the second is a 2 owner with the timing belt/ water pump service done at 95k. Thanks for the input.

If it has smoked colored head lights and fog light as apposed to the green tint then they should be kdss equipped

I'd get the black one... It's a non navigation rig and that will save you a lot of money and headaches if you ever want to upgrade the sound system -your cell phone has a better navigation system than these did.

Thanks for the reply. This will be my wifes ride and it may come down to color choice over KDSS etc. Id like to steer clear of OEM navigation and try to find one with KDSS but we'll see which one she likes. I called about the silver one last night- owner said he didn't know if it had KDSS and I haven't called about the black one yet.

The black dark wood interior is the easiest way to spot KDSS, also finding a KDSS without nav is going to be very very tough, not sure they even exist. I believe the sport models only came in a few colors like silver and black, unless it was custom ordered.

Good luck!

Found out both are the Sport models. One is black non-nav the other is titanium sliver (or something like that) with nav. Silver one had recent timing belt/ water pump service and the black one no timing belt / water pump service. So we have to decide or my wife has to decide which one because they are similarly priced. Im leaning towards the one with the recent timing belt/ water pump service even though it has navigation. Now I just need to talk them down to a more reasonable price.

Ok, got replies from my offers- here is where we stand. Initially, I was looking foe a GX, KDSS, 2006-2008, 1-2 owner, less than 130k miles for $17,000 or less.

1. Silver 08, sport, 2 owner (Texas), timing belt/ water pump service, 119,000 miles, navigation. Asking price $18,800. My offer $17,250, his (Private party) reply is $17,500.00.

2. Black 08, sport, 1 owner (North Carolina), no timing belt/ water pump service, 118,165 miles, no navigation. Asking price $18,684, My offer was $17,250.00, dealer reply was $18,000.

My initial thought is the silver one is less expensive and has had the timing belt/ water pump service. Both have Lexus maintenance records- should I be concerned with anything else. I was more familiar with the "issues" of a the 4RNR but the GX is a new animal for me.

Thanks.

Neither one has the sport package. I noticed almost every ad states the GX has a sport package but they obviously don't. Besides KDSS, sport package includes the aforementioned black maple wood trim except for the dash trim along the sides of the radio/nav (dark metallic finish), slightly smoked headlights, foglights, reverse lights and taillights (if they had the newer clear turn signal lenses), and silver roof rack caps and sides. Non-NAV sport editions do exist, and there were also tan interior'ed ones in 2008 or 2009.

Here's an example of a true sport package equipped GX - Lexus GX Base Sport Utility 4 Door | eBay. The rear spoiler on that specific GX was broken off, you can see the adhesive tape, plastic alignment guides, drilled holes, and delete panel where the original 3rd brake light would be (OEM spoilers have a brake light)

Thanks @ED_C, I haven't seen either GX in person yet- should be going friday. I thought both of the GXs that Im looking had the dark wood interior but after seeing your link I can tell the difference. I asked the sellers and either they thought they had the sport version or were hoping I couldn't tell the difference so your information helped. Not sure how that affects the pricing negotiations since I based my price thinking they were the Sport model. Our plan is to go see/ drive them on Friday. My wife could care less about KDSS but since this will be her car and kept mostly on pavement I thought it would handle better..... Decisions.........

Nav

+1 for avoiding the nav. Reminds me of old BMW's that first came with nav. Your old cellphone has better nav!

I'll see your 4 years bump and raise you 1 month. Nav gets you reverse camera, bluetooth, and touchscreen controls to impress potential female passengers. I specifically bought one with the nav, but not for the maps. Can't park in NYC without it! At least, if you like your bumper paint.
