Does anyone have the ARB roof top tent with ARB awning?

I have the 4' ARB awning mounted on my Rola rack. I'm considering buying a rooftop tent (probably ARB or Tepui). Is there a way for me to have my ARB awning open up on the side of my 3rd gen and have the RTT unfold towards the rear? I'm guessing I have to remove my Rola rack and factory crossbars and install some heavy duty cross bars. Thanks in advance.

You're talking about the Rola basket right? I don't think I'd recommend mounting it to that.

But yeah, you could mount the tent/awning in the orientation you wanted, but your hatch will not open all the way. I considered it, but between that hatch not opening all the way, the ladder being in the way of the swing out, etc. etc, I thought there would just be too much going on back there.

The cheapest mounting option will be smittybuilt "defender" mounts (I used them for about a year) or Yakima/Thule crossbars (which I also used for awhile). Of course if you can fab your own stuff you could build a little rack thing for it to sit on for dirt cheap. And of course there are people who have found blah blah on sale for $5 once with their limited edition coupon from their grandfather's ex-wife's grandson. So I guess I should say... The cheapest, READILY AVAILABLE, mounting option will be smittybuilt "defender" mounts or Yakima/Thule crossbars.

I had no issues with either, but "upgraded" from the crossbars to the defender mounts in order to lower my tent a couple inches, and attach it at 4 evenly spaced points on both sides, instead of 2.

Don't you talk about my grandfather's ex-wife's grandson like that!

It mounts directly on those brackets. I have the same ones.

Thanks GSPRunner. I checked out your rig and saw you have an awning on the other side. How does that mount on? Did you need additional brackets?

The awning mounts onto the bottom of the tent with the 2 supplied brackets it comes with.

Gobi Stealth and ARB Simpson III

I have a '16 TRD Pro. On my way to the Overland Expo, I'll be picking up the Gobi Stealth rack and ARB tent. Does anyone have a Gobi Stealth rack with a RTT mounted atop it?
Thanks

So no need to discuss this in a new thread but I'm starting a persuasion, I mean, shopping list. Amazon suggests the Smittybilt DS2-6 and states the DS2-8 will not fit. Any ideas on the difference? The pack comes with 6 brackets but I presume using 4 brackets/side makes it very stable. Also are RTTs flooring strong enough where they don't need crossbars for support? I'm really leaning towards a CVT Mt Shasta or whatever one is a 2+. Thanks!

I have the Curt basket and installed an ARB awning with no problems. I can't imagine stacking a tent on top of a basket. I think it would look funny, top heavy, and cut into mpg even more.

How big is that basket?

Curt basket with 2 extensions creates a full length rack for cheap and has held up fine for 2 years now. You can get away with 1 extension and use the stock crossbars, but I wanted mine low as possible and longer. I bought some aluminum square tubing 1"x 1" and ran it all the way down and drilled holes through the rack and tubing, bolted it down usually the stock square sliders in the rails. Added a couple foot pad for chairs from home depot up front to support the front of the rack

The awnings mounts are from L brackets with pipe U-bolts from home depot.

A side note, 2 extensions will not work with stock cross bars. You will need an additional crossbar and 6 mounts from Curt. Unfortunately, Curt only provides 4 with their rack and I could not track down anywhere to buy 2 additional without buying another rack. Plus Curt's mounts raise it a few inches which I didn't care for.
