20 Posts Before New Thread Seems Extreme

Having to make 20 posts (replies) before making a new thread seems really extreme. I get that it's an anti-spam measure but it is very discouraging to real live people who just want to ask a specific question (in my case the difference between daystar lift kits for the same vehicle).

Finding 20 threads with topics you can relate to or chime in on is time consuming. I've spent 3 days browsing around and chiming in here and there before getting to the point where I could post a thread.

Edit: This is even more difficult to do without dredging up old, dead threads. The few threads I found that were somewhat related to my question were 5-6 years dead.

Even better, the 20 post limit isn't documented anywhere that I could find. Not in the FAQ or the forum rules. I thought maybe I might be able to post a thread after 10 posts, but not even then.

I've given up and walked away from this forum several times before I finally tried to meet the post count requirement.

Agreed. I'm an active member on several forums (my other car, gaming, etc) and 20 is a little excessive.

Heck, by all means call me for account verification. Or ask me to put $1 in the T4R pot. But right now I've done all the research I can, need to ask a question and can't. Very discouraging.

I'm not going to disagree or agree with your thoughts, but I will make a couple suggestions to get you closer to your goal.

1) Complement someone's post, T4R, or support a comment someone else made if you are knowledgable in that area of expertise.

2) Revive the dead thread. It shows you are, at the very least looking around to get the answer you are looking for.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!

its extreme

If I were trying to reach 20 posts I'd likely just bump a bunch of classified adds from the second page and say, "Good luck with sale! Bump!"

RWBlue01 05-13-2016 11:54 AM

I agree, that is why I am posting in your thread.

RWBlue01 05-13-2016 11:55 AM

Heck, just restrict us to post in the New member section to into our selves.

RWBlue01 05-13-2016 11:57 AM

Sorry for posting in your thread multiple times, but I just want to get to the point that I can ask about the new 2016 vs. the 2017 before I buy.

(post count 4 now.)

I can't help but to agree that 20 posts is excessive. I'm a new member and have questions but feel discouraged because I can't ask questions without littering other threads.

Wow...that's funny. I'm also active on two other forums and am an admin on another and was thinking the same thing.

This is also to say that there are anti-spam measures for forums that don't involve a ridiculous new member post count to work? In fact, through being site admin for two different software versions (vBulletin and now PHPbb) on another forum we've never used any type of post count restriction, and also rarely had spam issues.

Maybe admin staff needs to take a look at vBulletin's other spam-reduction methods?

At this point all I want to do is ask a time sensitive question, and would then become active on here, but now I am replying to threads for no reason, trying to get post count up...just to ask a question.

Also, the fact the info on required posts, etc. isn't readily available is odd. Looked in New Member subforum, the sticky, nothing.

I must have missed something.

Post 5 right here.

20 posts :bump2:

Now I can post my question.....and stop being annoying.:peep:

Trying to reach 20

shinsain 05-15-2016 10:24 PM

Something must be wrong for me. I still can't post a new thread. Not sure why.

Is it 20 posts for sure?

FiReBReTHa 05-24-2016 11:12 PM

I can agree.
