Plastidip roof rails, how to remove
Howdy! going to see about getting rid of the last bit of silver this afternoon but I wanted my gameplan first. How do the rails get removed for spraying?
Do I have to remove the endpieces or does the silver remove from the brackets?
TIA

you have to take off the end caps and then unscrew the bolts holding the rails on.
there's a youtube video of how to remove them

If you are using plastidip, you don't have to remove the roof rails. If you are using regular spray paint, then you should but don't have to remove the roof rails.

I'll probably be plastidipping the roof rack this weekend as well. Can you post a picture or two showing how they look once you're done? I plan on removing roof racks just to make sure cover it well.

Thanks! I did indeed, along with the rear 4Runner chrome, although I sprayed the metalizer on top of the plastidipped badges which pretty closely matches the TOYOTA label on the TRD Pro fascia.
There are pics in my build thread. So far the 'dip has held up fine but it's been a relatively short test.

How many coats of the metalizer on the badge? Assuming silver metalizer of matte black? Mind posting a pic of the emblem. May try this.

Ill never understand why they decided to get all chrome-tastic on the 5.5.

Yeah, it was four coats of the matte black then two of the "graphite pearl" metalizer.
Here's a shot of the emblem after I did it and the rear valance. This is as much pop as it gets, usually it's a bit more subdued.
