Rear Door / Rear Hatch Speaker Adapters
I recently purchased a used 2011 4Runner w/o nav or jbl. I've come to discover that the drivers side rear door and rear hatch speakers were not working. Through a quick visual inspection I found out the previous owner replaced the rear hatch speakers with some infinity kappa 652.9i. The driver side hatch speaker wires broken off from the solder connection. The owner must have been on here at some point because they have the 32.9cf in the dash as well. Anyways they used a speaker adapter for the speakers on the rear hatch but only one hole lines up and they drilled 4 others to make them fit. Anyone know of an adapter that fits the factory mounting pattern?

The reason that you had no speaker operation at the rear doors and tailgate is because the tailgate and rear doors are wired IN-SERIES; much like a string of Christmas lights with one bad bulb; they are all dependent upon all bulbs to work! When your 'Party-mode' feature is off, ALL rear speakers are in series. When you have the 'Party-mode' system activated, that system disconnects the rear door speakers and uses ONLY the tailgate speakers; that should explain why you had no rear speaker operation! If you reconnect the tailgate speakers, they will all be operative! Quote:
Metra speaker mounting kits Just type in the vehicle year and model and they will provide you the model number that fits your truck (cost: around &20 bucks/pair)! Here (Below) is the kit that I used for my front door adapters: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-ge...nt-review.html and here's a tutorial that explains just how the party mode works: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-ge...k-non-jbl.html 'Best to you' rig |

From what you've just said and from the link you gave me, both rear door and hatch speakers are wired together in series. But from what I'm finding, granted I have no idea what the previous owner did, Each rear channel L or R is wired independently of each other, but the channel itself is in series. ie only the door speaker and hatch speaker from the associated side of vehicle is wired together. Or else you'd have no ability to adjust the balance in the rear of the vehicle. Quote:
I wasn't sure if there were ones that did or did not fit even though they say they will. The adapters on my speakers look similar to a Toyota specific one, thats why I questioned it. |

Apparently, TacoTunes.com sells adapters that will work for all 8 speakers.
