IPhone Bluetooth OBDII Reader and App
Hey Dudes,
Looking for suggestions on a good IPhone compatible OBDII Bluetooth reader and an App to go along with it. I'm using an Android phone and compatible reader but my phone is dying and I'm thinking of trying out something different. I definitely want to be able to still monitor trans temp, cooler temp, volts, etc. Thanks! |

I decided to go with a ScanGauge instead though. (Off topic rant below) Funny that you mention wanting to try something different, I've had an iPhone ever since the 3G came out back in 2008. After the iPhone 4 came out, I feel like these phones have gone down hill a bit. Now I'm thinking of switching from my iPhone 6 to an Android based phone; a cheaper one too. iPhones are boring these days and my 6 is not of the same build and design quality that the 4 was. I don't know squat about non-Apple mobile phones though, but that ZTE Zmax Pro looks nice for $99 at MetroPCS! |
Stay on android. What phone? How old? What are the "dying" symptoms? I've got a lot of experience with Android. I can help with most issues your having. Plus if you buy an iPhone you'll turn into a sheep. lol

I was thinking of doing a reset to factory settings but I'm a little clueless if I'll lose my contacts. I know I'll have to reload all the apps I purchased. Any advice would be welcome. |
And, I think I will just stick with Android.

Before you go full factory reset try clearing both caches. Here's a link to a how-to: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-cl...he-moto-x-2014 |
I have an OBD reader made by ieGeek. It uses wifi for some reason, not Bluetooth. Seems to work fine.
I use it with an Apple app called Dash Command. Reads codes OK and it does other stuff too. I've never used anything else so I don't know how it compares. |

Another Dash Command here.

So if your low on space that is probably a big part of the lag your getting. Flash memory likes to have about 25% free space or more to run at optimum efficiency. So if you've got 32GB of space you want to try and keep about 8GB free. The lower that free space to total space percentage goes the worse performance you'll see when apps try and access data on the chip. The second thing you'll be looking for is the RAM usage. Android does a really good job of allocating RAM so that's usually not the issue. Sometimes though people put a "battery saver" or task killer app on there device. Those apps are complete and total crap and end up taking up more RAM than they free. |

For the RAM, the system is taking up 500mb of RAM, the apps are using 450mb, and there's around 800MB of Free RAM available. Phone is working better but I think it's time to visit the Verizon store for an upgrade. It's been over 2 years so I should qualify for a deal on a new phone. |
