Questions about Xreas and self levling rear suspension option?
 

I'm uncertain about this for 03-06 4Runner's, but is it possible to have a 4Runner with Xreas and with the optional self leveling rear suspension?

Can both be had on a 4Runner??? Or is it just one or the other?

If you look at the member "KOZ" his signature shows both.

Hmm, I've been told by some that you can't have both, more than those that said you can... Maybe he will chime in.

How does that work if you typically have fluid going from front to back in a criss-cross pattern and now you have an airbag in the back. Where does the fluid go or do the shocks still remain together with the airbags? or is it done some other way?:confused: I remember looking into this system in detail but must have missed this point.

The rear air suspension is only on the V8 Limited. You can have both or just X-REAS, but can't have rear air suspension by itself--X-REAS is automatically included with the rear air suspension.

If I recall from the info I've read here, it replaces the rear coil springs with airbags. I think the effect of the airbags lowered would be similar to a truck with coils carrying a load. I could be wrong, but fluid transfer between the tubes are during dampening so when it's raised the shocks are probably extended a bit but the fluid isn't being compressed or forced to the diagonal shock. I could be wrong, just my guess. :confused:

In the northeast region, you must have XREAS to have the rear leveling air suspension. As the other members have already mentioned, the rear air suspension is not available on the Sports even though they have XREAS.

Yessir. Both my V8 ltds had the rear air susp and X-Reas combo (standard on Canadian V8 ltd's), and it was possibly my favorite option on the vehicle.

This is untrue. I'm not really sure who informed you of this but the Rear Air Suspension is very much available. Perhaps in your region they are not ordering vehicles with this option for some reason. However, the factory is still very much producing this option. Rear Air Suspension on Limited models requires the X-REAS shock option.

The word is that Toyota / Lexus is running short on the re-design drive shaft and the re-design rear lower control arm that is suppose to fix the cluck problem. The cluck appears mostly in 4runners and GX470 with rear air suspension. There is a TSB out there to fix this cluck problem for the GX. Seems like for the 4runner, the new parts will just go into new production 4runners. As of now, all GX cluck TSB is being put off due to production issues and part shortage. There are GX owners out there that have been waiting for the parts for 3 months. I guess Toyota / Lexus is allocating the re-design parts for production first.

I also just put a special order in - and I have quite a few engineering ties with Toyota. My special order was for a Ltd V8 rear air/X-REAS/etc. Went through and was accepted without a hitch - in fact the order acceptance was received yesterday (10/18). I double checked with my engineering side contacts after seeing your post and no, there are no holds on the rear air suspension at all. There may be issues with the parts which address the clunk as Boston mentioned, but they are definitely not holding production on the rear air suspension.

Toyota Canada indicates that the 2007 V8 Limited comes standard with both rear air suspension and XREAS sport suspension. Northof49 indicated both his Ltd.'s included it - as does the 2007's.

I wonder why it is not readily available in the US, unless the Canadian electronic brochure is incorrect.

007 - I'm not attempting to start world war III with you here. As I said before, perhaps for some reason your region is simply not ordering them with the rear air suspension. However, if you do a little research you'll discover that other regions are in fact still allowing this option. The factory itself is absolutely not prohibiting the rear air suspension option, nor is that option unavailable in general.

My region is the southeast. If you use an Atlanta zip code for example on toyota.com you'll be able to go in and see (1) that the rear air suspension option is most definitely still allowed, and (2) the current "en route" inventory for this region. If you select the 2007 V8 4x4 LTD models, you will see that there are 2 currently in the queue for this area which have the rear air suspension. One will arrive 10/21 and the other will arrive 11/01. About 10 others have come and gone with the rear air suspension since the 2007 models started arriving.

In addition, I ordered mine in September and received an order confirmation just this week, and it does in fact have the rear air suspension.

Again, no war intended. I'm just relaying the facts as I have them here.
