Charity Goal: The 12 BUV’s of Christmas

The 12 BUV’s of Christmas!

I know Christmas is just behind us and hopefully you are enjoying the blessings that it has brought to you and your loved ones. Not everyone is fortunate enough to share our standard of living, but there is something that we can do about it in a sustainable and long lasting manner.

I’d like to introduce you to the Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV). You can read in detail how this vehicle is enriching lives and communities and bringing improved quality of live across various impoverished areas on the planet on the www.DriveBUV.org website. It serves as farm vehicle to get crops from the field to the market; it is a school bus bringing kids to education and brighter futures; it’s an ambulance, saving lives by getting people from remote areas to needed medical care.

My goal for this post is as follows. This forum and the vendors who are part of this community know about offroad Light Truck tires. We know about lights. We know about springs. We know batteries. My hope is to raise enough support to outfit 12 BUV’s in 2018. One per month; built by volunteers here in Indianapolis. 12 by Christmas so we will have accomplished our “12 BUV’s of Christmas” by this time next year (2018).

What are the needs:
  • Lights (24): Flood lights with wiring harness (1 serves as a headlight, one as an area work light)
  • Battery (12): BCI 35 battery is preferred (however BCI 25 can work and U1)
  • Front Tire (12): 215-75-15 LT tire (235-75-15 works too, or 205-75-15)
  • Rear Tires (24): 235-75-15 or 31x10.50 off-road / aggressive tread
    OR
    Tractor Tire 15x7.0 or 15x8.0 (R1-R4 lug)
  • Rear Spring Sets (12): 1750 lb S10 spring set (max size for the S10 truck) (or equivalent)
    OR
Nissan Leaf Spring Set (see specs below)

New or Refurbished; Last year’s model… As long as it is in good working order, we’d love to take your donation and help rural communities improve their way of live.

Cool idea, a couple of questions:

-can we donate $ to go toward the supplies? I may have missed that part in the post. Might be good to set up a GoFundMe, I believe they take 5% of all donations but that’s not unreasonable, as long as people don’t pay via PayPal which takes an additional 3%.

-how and where are the vehicles being distributed? If there’s a goal to get these to a specific community or set of communities that would be great to know.

Again, great idea, I’d love to support. Contributing $ is preferable for me, and I’d love to know where this will help.

Great questions!
WHERE:
Most end up going to Africa. There is a micro factory in Tanzania (Factory Partner: Please see www.BUVTanzania.com or Facebook/BUVTanzania), but obviously vehicles are being built here in Indianapolis as well and shipped.

The idea behind the micro-factories is that it allows a local entrepreneur to start a business that not just improves his/her standard of living, but also has a positive impact on their larger community. Details on current African nations being services can be found here: http://www.drivebuv.org/where-we-work. If you know of a specific need somewhere, please get in touch with Will Austin at the contact information in the opening post so options for getting a BUV there can be discussed and coordinated.

DONATE $$$
There are several different ways to donate through the DriveBUV.org website. This uses PayPal and will allow your funds to go straight to the non-profit and bring the best bang for your buck.

Ways to Donate
If you prefer to pay by check, please address check to "I.A.T." and send to:
