Cooking on the Trail

Hey all!
Planning a trip next week and I’m curious what do you all cook while camping or on the trail? (Mods if there is already a topic on this then please merge, I couldn’t find it)

Anybody have some easy ideas?

My go to is steak but sometimes I do hot links/brats wrapped in crescent rolls over the fire.

LOL...I have too many pictures to post on this topic so I wont even bother. My Better Half is French so...our whole food thing would be extreme for some Folks. Also, you have to say "crescent rolls" correctly/in French.

I like to keep it simple with little clean up required.
I really like chicken fajitas you can buy by the pound and just cook it up in a pan add some avocados and tortillas, pretty good and easy.
Always scramble eggs at home and put them in a water bottle, same goes for pancake mix

I can’t even imagine how awesome your meals are in general let alone on the trail. Total stereotype but damn those French can cook.

We put pancake mix in a diner style ketchup bottle so it’s easy to just squeeze out on the griddle. Definitely easy is better.

My favorite camp fire meal:

Stew Meat
Potato
Carrot
Celery
Onion

Veggies cut up - mixed in with stew meat then place in a big sheet of aluminum foil - wrap it up. Place on hot camp fire coals. When done, pour on to plate. Easy cleanup.

Steaks, Brats, and Burgers are always a nice change but nothing beats the simplicity and taste of a good foil meal while car camping.

In addition to what you listed, I usually toss some garlic, butter, and a 1/4 cup of beef stock in mine.

Love a good steak... freeze dried food is a great option quick and easy.. for large groups we make a chicken pot pie stew..

Speaking of French, I like synthetic oil but i don't like my coffee synthetic so I bring a double-wall stainless steel French coffee press to trail camp. :)

Anyone able to suggest some non stick camp ware. I currently use my home stuff on my portable stove but not having a folding handle is slightly harder for packing. I will not be using it in the camp fire

I have the GSI outdoors bugaboo set. Folds up nicely and cleans very easily.

Check out the Almazan Kitchen channel on Youtube. It's a good resource for outdoor cooking methods and recipe ideas. Good photography too.

We used to go white water rafting in West Virginia.
One of our fellow campers was a cook....
and he would bring beef and pork tenderloin.
Imagine how wonderful that was after a day on the water!

My son and I used to go on these father/son campouts for Indian Guides.
(kinda like the boy scouts, but through the local YMCA)
We would all save our leftovers from dinner, throw ALL of it together (meat potatoes veggies) in foil...
and make campfire sandwiches that we threw on the fire at night.
