New Tires Recommendations Highway
 

Ok I searched first but all the threads are heavily targeting aggressive off road tires, and that's fine. I have a 2015 Trail and I'm going to be using it for a lot of towing (boat 3500 lbs) long distance 2x per year (890 miles each way). My stock Dunlop's are already wearing out at 39K. One more trip and they are done

I do not need aggressive off road tires. I need stable long distance tires that have can also handle steep dirt roads in VT. But I will not be doing any aggressive off-roading

Tirerack.com has all the info you need. I would go Michelin’s personally, it is all I put on my wife’s suv’s. They are the best tire period.

You’ll probably get flamed and told you should have searched more and never asked this question - couldn’t find a way to vent my frustration with some of the attitude in this forum, so I’m using your post to do so.... sorry, but I’m also interested in tires as you described.

Just bought a 2018! Stoked. Been pouring over the forum. I have noticed lots of bad attitude - flaming about not searching enough, asking “why did you buy the vehicle” if there’s something someone says they don’t like about their 4Runner, lots of snark. I participate in a lot of other forums, and it seems like there’s a lot more of it here... kinda makes me not want to participate. Wish the mods would tone this stuff down. Some people need to take on the “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all” approach.

ill second the michelins too...great in the wet and snow long lasting and quiet. ran them on all my vehicles including a jeep that spent a lot of time back and forth to dirt roads in vermont...kirby to be exact. 6 miles off pavement. never got it stuck!! had my dealer put them on my new runner when i bought it...

This. They will sun rot before they wear out haha. They do make a C rated AT tire but it isn't "cool looking" like the K02. The regular LTX or defenders are great tires.

I recently got Premier LTX tires, and like others said...they are excellent road tires. A little more than other tires, but well worth it.

Over the years I have owned all types of All Terrain tires but have alway ended up going back to the Michelin LTX M/S and recently the new Defender. I drive about 20k a year, tow a trailer every few months, and been down plenty of hunting trails...me personally I have never needed anything more. For example this one hunting cabin I use to go to had a very steep rocky and rooted driveway. In the winter it would ice over and my 2003 Tacoma made it up easier than all my buddies with full-size trucks with KO’s. Granted they would make fun of my grandpa tires but they were surprised (yes take this with a grain of salt because their trucks weighted at least 1k more than mine...). That tire is second to none in the comfort, rain, ice, and cold grip (non winter specific category) departments. However they are expensive which is a moot point because if your drive a lot you will easily get 80k out of them before they dry rot... For a highway/towing/commuting tire, you will be hard pressed to find anything remotely close to their performance.

I have a 2011 Limited so different wheels but I just put on a set of Dueler Alenza's before our OBX trip last month and they did great on the highway and beach. They are rated 800 A A and so far have been great in rain but have not tested them in snow/ice.

Michelin

I’ve read a lot of tire threads on this forum, and the prevailing winner right now for highway seems to be the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Don’t have ‘em but that’s what I think you’ll find. I’m also intrigued by the Cooper Evolution HT as a newer tire with a high silica compound. And it looks good on a 4Runner as far as highway tires go.

The Michelin offer p metric and LT which may be appropriate for your amount of towing. Not sure about the Cooper.

I tried Continental LTX this past winter, did not like them... was able to return them for refund and switched to Michelin Defender. I am quite happy with them.

Michelin LTX M/S2 is what id buy if I had the same needs as you. I had those tries on my ole 4runner for 78k miles. They do well off road and handle gravel/dirt roads pretty awesome

My guess is that Costco will have them on sale next month.

Michelin LTX M/S is IMO the best light truck tire made for all around use.

A good read regarding new tire performance vs tires that are down to wear bars.. and guess what??? Michelin out performs all.
