Another first timer...

Hey y'all! This is my first time owning a 4Runner, also my first time owning a 4Runner or a 4WD vehicle. In the past I've owned a couple of Ford Rangers, and an assortment of sporty/sports cars. I know I am going to miss driving a manual, but I got really tired of a 2-door car.

I've got 3 medium/large dogs (a lab, an aussie, and a golden retriever) so an SUV with a lot of space in the cargo area was a must. I was mostly interested in a WK or WK2 Grand Cherokee, a 2009+ Xterra, or a 2008-2012 Pathfinder. I had mostly given up on 4Runners and Land Cruisers due to cost, but one popped up about 3 hours away so I decided to pull the trigger.

It's a 2008 Limited in excellent shape inside and out, with under 60k miles!

I've had to address a few issues so far:
  • Recharged the AC. So far it's still going strong, which is a relief because I was worried there was a leak.
  • Replaced the stock bulbs in the dome light with some LEDs. I plan to do the same to the map lights.
  • Front windshield washer wasn't working, but pump was making noise and rears worked. I tracked it down to a cut/repaired hose near the back passenger edge of the hood -- bought some new tubing and couplers and swapped out the faulty portion and it works like a charm

Next project is to figure out the whistling/squealing sound from the rear wheels. It only happens at very low speeds (under 8mph) and seems a little louder when turning. But even then, it's hard to hear unless the windows are down. Anyone have some guesses as to what this may be?

We can guess or you can inspect your rear brakes. 60k miles is about time you did anyway.

A much better choice than a WK or any Jeep for that matter.

Newbie here too - joined today. Sounds to me like you got an almost-new 4Runner. You should be able to add 200k+ of your own miles to that girl. Congrats on the wise purchase! Very nice looking vehicle.

Thanks! I really need to get some underbody coating done, since it's already 10 years old in the midwest, and I think that would be the only thing that would keep it off the road in the foreseeable future.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase! Glad you were able to get in a 4runner with such low miles, I can't ever find any with that low of miles that isn't asking an absolute premium! Hopefully you get all the kinks worked out and have many happy years of riding around! The dogs will love the back window down :)
