The LFD Off Road Thread

It’s about time we started one of these.

A lot of you guys have heard of us by now. We’re LFD Off Road.

A little history: I bought my 4Runner Trail in January of 2016, immediately put on some KO2s, and thought that was the end of my mods. Maybe I’d want a roof rack one day. I said the same words many here before have uttered, “I’m only going to use the 4R on some forest roads, nothing hard core.” I then took a 4wd 101 class with UORTC here at Uwharrie (which has since become a part of OEX), got bitten by the off road bug after that class, and thus began the journey to today.

Our parent company is an industrial machinery manufacturer, and we also have a fabrication division. We’re celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, so we’re actually not a start-up or new company, Off Road is just a new division. We are new at the business to consumer market though, since all our previous work was business to business.

Anyways, late one evening following that 4wd 101 class, I began making my own parts for my 4R in the fab shop. People in the local 4R groups (you C4R-ORG guys are mainly to blame) started seeing the parts I made, and begin asking if they could buy some as well. After talking with our owner, we got the blessing to begin the Off Road division, hired some more Toyota off road enthusiasts, converted a few others to the Toyota side, and things started taking off from there!

Thanks to the resources of the parent division, we have our own fiber laser, press brake, robotic welder, and a full staff of engineers at our disposal. We design, cut, bend, and weld everything in-house. The only operation we don’t perform at our plant is powder coating. The below panoramic image is just the back half of the plant, showing the CNC machinery where the magic happens!

To date we’ve made a slew of parts for 5th Gen 4Rs, 4th Gen 4Rs, 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma, 80 and 100 Series Land Cruisers, Lexus GXs, Tundra, a couple Jeeps, and are actively working on a lot more!

We’ll continue to update this thread with product information, announcements, reviews, our general mischief, and whatever else you guys end up posting.

Thank you for a great first year, and we look forward to many more!

I'll start off with a few pictures from @007Tacoma of our 7/8 rack. He was one of our early adopters.

It's shipping today!

Everything is make to order right now, so it just finished up in welding a few days ago and made it over to the shipping department.

As we had noted when posting the Black Friday codes, all Black Friday orders were subject to lead times.

@jafrush

I sent an email regarding the battery cage. I'd like to know what modification, if any, needs to be done for fitment in the 5th gen stock battery location before ordering.

thanks!

I’ll post pics of my V1 Trail crossbars later

Hey, sorry I missed that one.

You just remove the factory battery mounting tray. Beneath that is a small sheet metal shelf the tray rests on. The cage has a hole pattern in the bottom, you simply pick a few of the holes, and either use supplied self tapping sheet metal screws, or drill and rivet the plate in place.

You will need to extend the factory battery leads by about 2" if using a group 31 battery.

@YellowSnow I sent your tracking number to you on the Facebook message.

I just got in from running another batch of 5th Gen crossbars through the brake. Not my usual job, but its fun to run the brake every once in a while!

Mine was super simple to install. Bought some Slee extenders and it went right in.

This is the only one I have at the moment. None of us even have one installed yet on ours, we cant keep them in stock long enough to claim one for ourselves...
