Recommended coil/shocks for carrying 400+ lbs in the back of my 3rd gen
As the title says, I routinely carry weight in the back of my 4runner for work and am looking to upgrade my springs/shocks to get a couple inches lift and better carrying ability. I was thinking LC 7 wraps but I've read some saying they sag even worse than stock. I thought about going OME and then just installing air bags but thought I'd ask the masses first. Thanks!

I'm happy with my OME 906 coils. Very little sag when really loaded down. Plus a mild lift when empty or lightly loaded.

Why not new Toyota OEM 99 'talls'? I think Toyota OEM are stout.
My runner has nearly 307K miles with original springs and I've loaded 800+ lbs in the rear compartment, it 'sags' only 1", that's a stout spring!
Doesn't look like a "frog" squating with all the weight, still looks/drives good down the road.

I have the OME 906's and they are wonderful. Excellent for towing or carrying extra weight in the back. My 2500ish lb boat/trailer barely moves the back down when I'm towing it.
In fact, the ride is even better when towing. You'll get about a 2" lift out of the deal. I think I paid $175ish for the pair.

Thanks! I'm looking to tow sometimes as well as I need to move large quantities of water for work. What shocks do you run if you don't mind me asking?

906 for me also. I carry 500+ lbs of gear all the time. 2 inch lift unloaded, loaded it goes to about 1 inch lift same as my old 99 talls when unloaded.

Wow, what did I do to my original talls? They sagged to the stops with a full load at only 170K. Thing looked like it was ready for take-off. 906s solved the problem.
How do you have original '99 talls on a 2001? Did you swap them in when you bought it? If you are talking about original 2001 springs, that is a whole different (and much shorter) animal. The '99 talls sag like a mfer with weight, way more than the shorter ones. Even new, they sagged with weight. I do NOT recommend. Go 906.

I use the Billy 4600s (as do others on here), while I believe others use the 5100s (@phattyduck??) just to name 2 options.
I don't believe there is any great difference in valving, just length.

I've thought 4600's all the way as I have a friend who did 99 talls in the rear and he had to put a small spacer lift in with 5100s to get them to operate quietly. Icon 2.0 might have to happen if I can find the right deal though. Thanks again for all the input

I remember hearing some people using the OME 861? coils and 4th gen 5100s to jack up the rear a ton and still have a decent lift in the rear after being loaded down a lot.

What would be the best rear coil spring replacement to go with a '00 with stock height suspension? I'm not looking to lift mine. I'm competitive shooter, mostly 3 gun, and tend to haul around a bunch of gear. And I usually have one or two buddies going with me. That translates into a bunch of weight in the back end.

The 906s don't add much height to the setup and would take care of it for you I think.

I'm incredibly pleased with my 906s, 5100s, and airbags.
Once broken in I found the setup a little soft without the airbags. I run the airbags at about 10psi and never see sag including when towing. The ride is phenomenal and I think it's just tall enough to be purdy.
