6th Gen to look like Toyota FT-AC concept ?

Here's what people are saying about the 2021 Toyota 4Runner update/replacement:

Tacoma parts: It may get the same V6 that's currently available in the Toyota Tacoma which is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. That has the potential of including the same six-speed automatic that's currently being used in the Tacoma as well.
Straight six engines: With Toyota/Lexus new interest in straight six cylinder engines (like the 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque unit in the new Supra), there is a chance that they might consider one for the 4Runner. It's not that likely in my estimation (given its BMW origins), but you never know.
New platform(s): A lighter, stronger frame is possible. A beefed-up unibody/unit-body has been rumored. Both possibilities are said to be aimed at greater safety, performance, comfort and EPA numbers. Off-road prowess is said to remain a priority regardless of the platform.
Modern Axles: Toyota might opt to eliminate the solid rear axle in favor of an independent rear end. Test vehicles have been seen with an independent rear end that may be aimed at future Toyota and Lexus 4X4 trucks.
New Design: We fully expect to see a resemblance to the newest Toyota RAV4's design with the upcoming 4Runner. More than one person connected to Toyota said the FTAC concept is a good indication as to what they are thinking.
Vs. Jeep: There may be more variants given the rise and popularity of Jeep's newest products. The Toyota 4Runner is one of the few vehicles that currently goes nose-to-nose against popular Jeep products. They are fully aware of this.

no thanks

The head on view isn't bad, but that side profile is awful. I have to think Toyota is smart enough not to make such a drastic departure from what works. Since 2009 their sales keep going up. Probably why they are so hesitant to release a new gen.

I see the 2020 as testing the waters. No big changes, but more tech and safety features.

from the side it looks like a freaking subaru..

FT-AC was a concept preview for the 5th gen Rav4 - nothing more:

Yep.

The reason that article is bullshit is that 2021 will not be the year the 6th gen comes out, especially with the new upgrades they are adding to the current gen for 2020.

Look at all the worldwide vehicles that share the platform to understand why they simply can't give up BOF even if they wanted to.

Isn't the 4Runner sold to certain countries for use in their military?
That should keep it mostly like we want them, of course, as long as they market them here.

The 3.5L is already weak in a 4,100 lb Tacoma. Add 2-300 more lbs and it'd be a wreck.

MY guess is 3.5L for 2wd version only - and a standard hybrid or massaged 3.5L for the 4x4 models, for more combined hp and torque. Something like 300hp, 280 torque for 3.5L, or like 310 hp, 330 tq for hybrid.

Can we please just have an updated variant of the reliable 1UR-FE V8 in the eventual 6th gen? We promise to never look at those Nissans or Raptors again, it was just a one-time thing, honest
