99 steering wheel into 97

I own a 97' and have a 99' wrecker sitting in the yard. I wanted to flip the 99 steering wheel with my current one which is peeling badly.

Realized early on that the design of the wheels are completely different and the airbag yellow wire connector is different behind the wheel.

Wondering if there is a solve for this or I just need to rewrap my stock wheel?

Thanks

I did the exact swap with my 97 with a 99 wheel. All you need to do is swap the wheel and the clockspring. But I'm not 100% sure that you need the clock spring.

Thanks for the reply.

The wiring harness for the airbag is different so how did you manage to hook up the new airbag?

If you swap in the clock-spring from the 99, the 99 airbag and steering wheel will attach to it. The connectors on a pre-99 clocks spring are different than a 99+ clock-spring.

You do need to switch the clock spring, it’s been about a year since I did the mod and couldn’t remember exactly. But the plug for the clock spring to the truck’s harness is the same from 96-02 but the airbag to clock spring changed 96-98 99-02. So just grab both the wheel and the clock spring and you’re set.

Meant to update but was without internet in the bush. This works perfectly.
