6th Generation Coming in 2022?

It seems the 6th generation might be a ways off...

Next-Gen 2022 Toyota 4Runner Coming and Enthusiasts Offer Redesign Suggestions | Torque News

Man, if I have to wait until 2022, I'm in something else. I love my 4th Gen, but it has 225000 on it, think I'm starting to have coolant in the engine routine. I'll get it fixed as I absolutely do not like the lack of power in the 5th Gen. Rented one for a week last year, could not get over the difference in torque between the 4th and 5th. Tried another day with a 5th Gen SR5 last week thinking I might trade mine in. Nope. The way people drive around Chicago, you better have some get up and go or you're gonna get you ass-end hit. I might be able to wait for the 2021 6th Gen, but if it's another year I'll regretfully move to Jeep.

2022 is what most of us have been saying for over a year.

5th gen here, if you put the pedal to the floor they actually move pretty well. The 5th gen does seem to have a delayed accelerator pedal during day to day driving though. You could always supercharge it...

Look into that accelerator responsiveness changing module that plugs in at the pedal... can't remember the name of it. But for only ~$280, the reviews were really good, and it pretty much solved the lack of response problem that the 5th gens. have.

Something tells me, given the 3rd gen. Tacoma, the 6th gen. 4Runner is not going to return to being a performance monster.

Exactly, I bought a sprint booster and it was a night and day difference. Should be the #1 mod when buying a 5th gen. So much better. I think the 5th Gen moves pretty good for a 5,000 lbs. vehicle.

I dont know why the mods wont correct that. It certainly is not, nor is the 2020. We dont know about the 2021 yet so there is still hope.

How long before model year are these things usually leaked / official announcement?

2020 Highlander was officially announced in April 2019 for the 2020 model year. But, I think word was out in Feb 2019.

Similar timeline for the 6th gen?

Dillusion 06-21-2019 12:48 PM

I don't have said power problem. Think it user error.

mscot 06-21-2019 02:28 PM

If you search the 5th gen and this forum you'll find several mentions of Toyota moving to a new platform across all of its BOF offerings.
This will begin happening with the Tundra (and maybe TLC, IIRC) being released first around model year 2021 (speculation) and the T4R (and its siblings) following a year later.
So, you may see a new T4R at the end of 2021 as a 2022 model year but with how things have been moving, it's probably the following year.
i.e. if you want a T4R buy a T4R or wait ~4 years.

Bourbonator 06-24-2019 03:57 AM

My completely uneducated guess is this:
2021, new Tundra
2022, new Sequoia
2023, new 4Runner.

amheck 06-24-2019 01:50 PM

disappointing, really was hoping it was 2020.

I'm driving a 2004 Limited with 165k and while its fine, no major problems, its getting time to upgrade. Really want some of the newer tech and I hate to buy a current gen now just to be faced with the decision to turn around and tell that within a year or two to get the next gen. I was hoping I would just make the jump to the new gen this year.

But as previously asked, yes, when will we know for sure what the 2020 version will bring? This fall?

mscot 06-24-2019 03:39 PM

Dude. the 2020 has already been announced. Check the 5th gen forum.

thanks, I'm paging thru that thread, but still unsure. Is that just for the TRD Pros or all models?

if all then the technology and safety stuff is good, that got me a lot of what I was wanting. I didn't see anything about LED lights yet though....
