Brake Question
I own a 2007 V8 Limited - I've had this intermittent problem occurring, which is where I hit a patch of bumpy concrete (while braking), the car digs into the brakes hard, then I lose braking feel, even if I'm standing on the brake. Almost caused an accident last night. Also can happen if I dig into the brakes, let off, then step down hard again - I'll lose pedal feel and stops braking, until the car decides to apply all pressure and brakes hard - or not. Brake master cylinder doesn't seem to be a problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I drive my kids all of the time and this could be dangerous in the wrong conditions. |
Both my 4runners have shown this behavior on bad pavement under braking. Be curious what others have experienced.

I've had it where if I hit the brakes harder than usual directly on a patch of concrete that drops a couple inches, where its an unlevel seam, it'll cut the brakes for a split second directly after the landing. If I apply normal brake pressure or only brake hard before or after the unlevel seam it's fine.
My fix; don't brake hard on bumpy concrete. |
I'm guessing this is the ABS kicking in because the tire loses traction momentarily when it hits the bumps/dips
ABS does some very weird things when it activates from my experience. |
