2005 V8 wrecked
I am looking at a 2006 V8 low miles under 100,000 limited. They carfax shows an accident and marked it middle front moderate to severe and airbags deployed. But when I look at the vehicle it still has the Vin number on the fenders and hood. Yes, I can see the overspray around the grill but the crumple zones are still intact and have a rust on them like the rest of the areas which is typical.. The salesman "I know they want to sell" told me the airbags did not deploy and carfax is incorrect. Is this possible? I really like the vehicle and it is in great shape. It needs tires badly and the wreck happen 30,000 miles ago. It is a one owner also which is nice but it has Xreas on it. I want to put a small lift and use it for overlanding. Any thoughts?

At this point it I feel carfax does not matter anymore. If it was a minor hit and major body panels are still intact it should be fine. If it was a 1-2 year old car with that much damage maybe it might concern me but with the age and how scarce these are getting in sure its ok.
If it is still a concern, try to contact the prior owner. Get their info off the title. Dont read to much with Carfax. They make mistakes! Think of it this way, the prior owner drove it for 30,000 miles after the possible incident. I would not worry about it. |
Works for me. Yea is happen back in 2012 and they drove it 30,000 since then. And your right it is getting hard to find the V8 with low miles
|
I’d lowball them on asking price and go from there. Even if it is in good shape and low miles, what’s written on the carfax is a bargaining chip regardless of what the dealer claims.

If it’s a good deal to you then yes. Prices vary by location.

2WD $9500 is way too much, IMHO 4WD it could be worth the $9500 if the 4WD system works as it should...BUT I would still try and get them down even more, me I would offer $7700 and hope to get it for around $8000 to $8500. |
If it’s a 4WD 2006 V8 Limited with 100k miles and I was in the market for one, I personally would have already bought it at the $9500 price point if everything checked out ok.
I know what KBB says, in my area Toyota tax is a real thing. If a 4WD, it always goes for more than bluebook. This assumes a clean title, but if its a minor accident, I doubt it will change anything too much unless there was something seriously wrong with it like a bent frame. The fact its got the ding on CarFax, use it to your advantage, but I keep expectations realistic. |
I went to buy it today. Dealer lowered my trade in by $2500 which means I would have lost a ton of cash. I couldn’t justify the purchase for it. It’s like they really wanted it to go to auction. Carfax showed airbags deployed and minor to severe as I stayed. Abs light was on but it ran good. I was ready to bring it home but something was off about the deal even the wife felt it. So we walked away.

Gives you $3400 off the sell price, and then lowers your trade by $2500… So he gave you $900 off in total. Sounds like a shady way of maintaining margin.
If your gut tells you no deal, then you were probably right. I wouldn’t loose sleep over it. Plus, its probably going to need some work. They all do at that age. Budget a couple grand for the basics just to get it road worthy. |
Yea my gut said keep looking. I was forcing it. It was a limited 4wd with 88,000 miles needed drivers seat it was worn really badly like tears on the side. I wanted it for the V8 really that was it.

The badly worn drivers seat was clue that it had more than 88,000 miles IMO.

I know leather can vary a lot depending on the brand but this seems like a good gauge. I haven’t owned a Toyota with leather, but my Silverado and Acura both have over 100k miles and leather. The Silverado is visibly fatigued but no serious cracks or tears, the Acura has held up amazingly well. Seats are worn in but look amazing and still comfortable. That said, the cloth in my 200k+ mile 4th gen is in amazingly good condition as well.
