Fire extinguisher (5lb) mount... Ideas?

Looking for opinions on where to mount my 5lb Amerex fire extinguisher. I'd prefer something near the bottom of the rear passenger seat. Any mount or mods out there that would support this? I see plenty for 2.5lb unit mounts, but not much out there for the 5 pounder.

I have seen many 2.5 vehicle mount bracket kits. You could fit one near the seat or side trim area. A 5lb I have not seen a vehicle support kit for (generally the kits are for forktrucks and other equipment to mount 2.5s). A 5lb is also alot of keep still in the event of a collision as the mass moves forward.

I also have only seen 2.5lb mounts. I figure spend more on the extinguisher since I'm limited on size.

I have the exact same 5lb amerex fire extinguisher which I purchased through ebay with a vehicle/boat mount included. I plugged a hammer drill into my 2016 and started drilling through some panels in the trunk area. I kept saying "why are you drilling yourself" to humiliate her the whole time. At first I attached it to that panel which opens up revealing the tire jack, but it is not secure enough. I have decided instead to mount it just to the left of that panel and I will attach pictures when I get home from work. The fire extinguisher sits there perfectly and is easily accessible through the rear. Furthermore, I have the 3rd row seating model and it does not interfere with the mount.

I did the exact same thing, used some wide area washers to stiffen up panel on backside works fine

From Wits end's website:

Will the Amerex B386T Halotron fire extinguisher fit in your seat bracket?
The potential the issue is that this is the 5lb. I have not tested with any 5lb extinguishers but I do have room to clear the nozzles of the 2.5s. Now it looks as though the body does not go past the length of the nozzle so that is good news. If you are using the bracket 818S then the holes will line up just fine. If you are using the 821, 821S or 807 brackets then you would have to drill new holes. The 807 altogether though I don't think is a good choice for up front anyway.

Im glad to see this as an option. I feel more comfortable having it attached to a solid anchor point. That said, the mount only works on the driver's seat, so I'd have to play around first to see exactly how much leg space I would be giving up.

Please explain how you used the washers. I assume you mean that the fire extinguisher is mounted on that removable panel behind the wheel well on the left side. If you have any pics... Also does it rest on the ground? or is it slightly suspended? I had to rest mine on the ground for mounting because I did not want it to interfere with the cargo cover (vinyl pull out thing for trunk) which slides into a notch right above this area.

Thanks man!

Could you mount the fire extinguisher on something like this.

I'd caution that you'd want to make sure to mount the extinguisher in a spot where it can't do any damage to you in an accident.

Mounting it on a removable panel (or any interior panels) may be a very bad idea as the forces in an accident will turn that 8lb slab of very hard metal (most 5lb [fill] extinguishers weigh about 8lbs) into a missile.

Accordingly, ask yourself "where will this thing go in an accident?" Consider snugging it up against the back seat and mount it to something solid. If it can move, then it will move in an accident and it will rip out of any trim panels.

How about a 21st century solution?

Element Media

I keep it under my seat.

No, not mounted on removable panel, just forward of it
There is room between panel and body. Used 1/8x half inch bolts
1 1/2 inch wide area washers with a self locking nuts
4 bolts total
