Cup holder alternatives
So it's no surprise that the cup holder size, layout, and quantity in these 5th Gens is abysmal. In fact, this has been an issue in every Toyota and Lexus product I have ever owned. I guess the Japanese put very little value and interest into having drinks in the vehicle haha.
What have you guys done to accommodate larger cup sizes or to add to the lack of cup holders? |
..tagged.. i agree. I came to the 4runner world from a 2012 ford escape, 4runner is better in so many ways but the escapes cup holder game was strong

what i have seen in my travels and what i have read, cup holders are only a big deal with the "super size" American market. Most other nations use the automobile as a means of transport. Meaning they drive not feast. I remember back in the 80's Porsche struggled with adding a cup holder for the American market.

There might not be an alternative given the constraints of the already cramped cabin, but I figured I'd reach and out see. |

Coming from a POS '17 Ford F-150, the layout of the '19 Toyota 4Runner entire console area sucks in comparison. All of the Toyota console area layouts sucked when we were shopping for my wife's ride back in 2015. |

You know the rubber insert comes out of the front two console cup holders right?
Christ, once you take the insert out it will fit our 32 oz wide mouth nalgenes, double walled stainless tumblers, a Coleman thermos, I could go on. How big of a damn drink do you wanna put in there? Two liter bottle of soda? I bet you don’t like the oem key fob either... |

Exactly. The cup holders offer plenty of fluid storage for large quantity holding vessels. This is not a legitimate problem with our vehicles. Just off the top of my head I think there’s 10 cup holders in a 7 passenger vehicle. Seems like plenty. |

I usually have a 1 liter bottle of water (won't fit in the cup holder even without the rubber insert) and a 32oz. Yeti/RTIC metal style cup. The latter fits with the insert removed but in the forward cup holder it rubs up against the center stack, not ideal. It does the same thing in the LX and both of them are in that same spot in that truck, you have no other choice. My point is that they really should improve upon this in the next gen 4Runners as almost every other vehicle on the market has. By starting this thread I was simply hoping that someone had an out of the box solution beyond the shitty amazon choices listed above that I had already explored. And in regards to the jab about the key fob, I'm not sure if that was your attempt at humor or if that is an actual common complaint, but I have never even thought twice about that aspect of these trucks. |
