Anyone ran the Goodyear Wrangler Authority tire?
 

I bought a Jeep Wrangler a couple of years ago that had a set on it in 31x10.50/15. I had never seen this tire before and really liked how it performed off-road.

The Jeep was such a horrible ride on-road, that I never really noticed how the tire affected anything. But they seemed to wear OK and did great in the dirt and mud. No snow experience.

I sold the Jeep after a year and swapped the tires with my brother's Jeep, and he loves the tires.

I tried to buy a set for my last vehicle, but couldn't find them anywhere.

Was on Walmart.com and saw that they are available again for $145 each. Was set on the Falken Wildpeaks, but am tempted to try the Goodyears (despite not being a Goodyear fan...).

Anyone else have any experience with them? They seem to get rave reviews.

You got me. I thought I knew all major brand AT tires! It is a Walmart exclusive, which explains why I never noticed its existence.

Looks like C load in 265 70 which is great. Tread looks perfect for my needs, too.

But what's the tire weight? And what is the starting tread depth?

All I can find for sale is the E range version listed at 50.87 lbs and no tread depth given.

Went to the Goodyear site for specs and it just re-directs you to WalMart's site.

There's gotta be something wrong with the final stage though. If the tire had 11/32 at 40,000 (!!!) and was done by 56,000, then the compound did not get harder, it got softer and that would also explain why performance remained good till the end.

Assuming the tire is no heavier than 50-51 in LTC as well, I would have to give it a very hard look. My P265 70 17 Wildpeaks are an amazing all-around tire and can handle any terrain when new/ish as well as Utah or Montana at 7-8/32ns but in the Arizona desert I start worrying about punctures already before 15,000 miles on the set. I now have two tires that are getting under 7/32nds (26,000 miles). I need to go through another winter of desert driving to see if the P265 Wildpeaks will do in the long term for me.

EDIT: one of the guys says that the LTC 265 weighs 43lb. The noise comments are not as welcome, but nothing is perfect...

I went ahead and pulled the trigger and ordered a set from WalMart in LT265/70/17 load range E. 50.87 lbs. $640 with tax and WA state tire charge and delivered to my door.

I was going nuts researching all the tires and reading reviews, so I decided since they got such great reviews for snow, were pretty rare, and checked nearly every box for what I wanted/needed in a tire, I better get a set now and store them for a couple of months before installing them for hunting season.

The biggest drawback I can see is that they are heavy and my mileage will suffer. But, I do tow a 2500lb trailer into the mountains quite often and the extra beef will be reassuring.

But, I also remembered that when I had them on my Jeep, I went exploring into the Idaho mountains in mud/rocks/dirt and didn't realize that my 4wd was not engaging since I was able to go everywhere in 2wd. The traction was amazing.

An LTC at 43lb would be extremely appealing. The hybrid tread design is perfect for what we do.

But I will see where I am come next Memorial Day. Hopefully not earlier as that would indicate punctures/issues.

Tire noise is a concern though. Please update this thread with info about that and any comparisons you can make to other tires you have experienced in a 4R or a GX. I would venture a guess that a Tacoma is generally noisier than a 4R.

I didn't think I was really noise sensitive until I installed a GoRhino roof rack on my 4Runner this weekend. The extra wind noise is noticeable.

I barely noticed the noise on my Duratracs, but that was in my 2005 Yukon. I had the same roof rack on the Yukon as well and never noticed any wind noise, either. Maybe the 4Runner is more susceptible to tire and wind noise? I guess I'll find out.

For the record, these tires are awesome. I have had a set of 265/75r16 load range C's on my 3rd gen for about 35k miles. They easily have another 5-10k left on them. They're a great tire at a great price. They do well in the rain on pavement, and they do well in the mud. I have started getting some chunking, but it's not horrible.
