Ultimate Mall Crawler Build

1 Attachment(s)
Just bought a dark gray 2019 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium with KDSS. Only reason I chose premium is for the power sunroof.

My first Toyota. First lesson: Toyota is extremely difficult to negotiate with on pricing! Got about 4K off MSRP though with the sales and 2020's coming on the lots.

Background: I have a JK on 40's with beadlocks that I take to the hammers. Done everything there except wrecking ball and backdoor (did it with a winch but that doesn't count). Had fun daily drivers and then decided to lease a Mercedes as a DD. Hated it... boring as hell. So decided to get a 4Runner as a DD. Figured I can make it more luxurious than my Mercedes and more fun to drive. Maybe some light offroading and expeditions. Not a hammer rig though.

Basically... I'm trying to build a badass mallcrawler (those two words shouldn't be in one sentence).

(Done) Stage 1: Electronics
- Alpine Halo9
- Replace all speakers
- Alpine Sub and Amp (under seat)
- ARB Fridge with switch (factory location)
- Dual Batteries
- Cell ram mount and additional USB port near ram mount

(Done) Stage 2: Wrap matte green with matte black accents

(Done) Stage 3: Lift and Tires
- King shocks w/ adjusters
- Toytec front UCA, rear UCA and LCA, rear trackbar
- Flat black non beadlock rims
- KO2's (34")
- King Air bumpstops with custom mounts (front and rear)

(Done) Stage 4: Magnuson Supercharger
Borla Exhaust

Did a bunch of minor stuff too. All below.

(Done) Stage 5 (most exciting): Custom leather wrap seats, door panels, steering wheel, shifters, black headliner, blackout all plastic (that is currently gray like the pillars, and everything attached to headliner). This stage is in mid-November as I ordered flat green leather to match exterior wrap... and I think they didn't kill the cow yet. Also... replacing seat heaters with a cooling and heating system for front. Lastly... while everything is out... soundproofing everything basically.

(Done) Stage 6: Southern Style Offroad Trailgator, Roof rack, and Front Bumper (with side skid things). SSO Slimline w/ stage 2. Winch. 30" Rigid light. RCI Skids (including control arms and diff).

(Done) Stage 7: Drawer system... ordered Goosegear and custom stuff. AluCab tilt fridge slider, Front Runner storage and Roam storage, Aluminum Radiator, Tranny Cooler with fan. MaxTrax...

(Done) Stage 8: Front ARB Locker, re-geared to 4.56, Beadlocks, Cooper ST Max 34's.

(Planned early 2021) Stage 9: Remove KDSS... do some magic and get 37's and Atlas T-Case.

Part 1 of stage 1... installed all speakers, sub, and amp today. Given that I've never done this... it a very easy install on a 4runner.

No photos as most of this you can lookup on your own. Here are some notes though:

Crutchfield overall is great. I learned about them from this forum and am very grateful I did. I purchased their recommended speakers for the 4Runner and they attached the housings and connectors for free (without me asking) and made this entire install plug and play. Without them I'd be cutting wires and screwing everything up.

For the front door speakers I installed the Focal IS 690TOY. The speakers are fantastic. The tweeters suck. I am going to trash them and install the Subaru tweeters.

For the rear doors I installed the Focal RCX-130. They are good.

For the cargo area I installed the Hertz DCX 130.3. Not so great unless your into techno or similar music. Going to keep them for now but would recommend getting another set of the Focal RXC-130's for the cargo area if your going this route.

Install notes... only hiccup I had was removing the door panels. I watch a youtube video and some guy removed the panels with the window sill thing. Then he banged and shoved the panels back on. Don't do that. Remove the panels by pulling back towards you and the sill will remain on the door... then it's extremely easy to re-install the panels.

Note regarding the Alpine Halo9 ILX-F309FRN. I purchased this thinking I can take apart the unit from the trim kit, get the trim kit painted and re-install. That is not possible with messing with the internals of the until to the point of no return (or at least I couldn't figure it out). So I ended up getting a Metra Dash Kit and will us the Metra trim instead of the trim the Alpine unit comes with to maintain the black trim color. The Metra dash kit has a slightly wider opening allowing the Alpine unit to slide in and out.

Waiting on the kit to come... so the install will have to be after the wrap.

Nice! 2019s are a steal right now and I personally don't think the new features on the 2020 are worth the extra money.

*** THIS RIGHT HERE!!!! **** I installed new door speakers and by god if the panels weren't a pain in the ass to reseat. Most other panels Ive removed in my life simply hang the sill lip and give it a pound and all falls into place. NOT THESE AND ITS INFURIATING. Its even more infuriating when you realize the sill piece separates, unlike other cars, and you just install the sill then align the pegs and tap tap tap. Easy peasy once you do it this way. :frusty: :tea:
