3rd gen DAMAGEinc build

New to the Toyota game. Been eyeballing 4runners & Taco’s for some time. Finally purchased a 2001. Previously salvaged title for hail damage although it is straight as an arrow now. It had a lot going for it. A little lift, 285’s, & it looks good.

Since my purchase I have only done a couple of things. First off was a custom wind jammer for the rack. The wind noise was unbearable.

Next up was an impromptu shelf for the cargo area. Was going camping with the kids & 2 dogs. Worked out well, needs refined.

1 more of the wind jammer. It’s painted now. Was not sure I liked it but it serves its purpose.

Put a lift on my brothers 4 runner this weekend. The thing was rusted pretty good underneath & we ended up cutting sway bar links to get them off. It rode & drove pretty good afterwards. Mine took a trip as soon as his truck was off of the lift. Also lost the centercaps on the wheels.

Did a little flex testing after removing the sway bars. Did not gain much. I think it rides better. I’m going to leave them off. I may want them back on when I get it loaded down with weight again.

The 4Runner is in dire need of a locker. I’m going to run a Spartan in the rear until I don’t. I was not impressed when I went out to the farm a couple weeks ago.

Nice! That rear platform is similar to what I put into mine. fits a dog-bed perfectly!

Pretty easy to avoid getting stuck like that. A locker wont help much when you drive too close to a river and almost roll it.

Well, that’s not a river, it’s a small shallow creek. Could not even get into it! As soon as the weight shifted it spun the front tire in the gravel & I was done. 1st rig I’ve ever had get stuck there. My 90 Suburban, 79 Bronco & 06 Super Duty do it just fine.

I don’t know how much lift my 4Runner has. It has KYB shocks, looks like a spacer in the rear. I think here before too long I am going to loose the lift. Next time I order shocks I’m going back to stock height. I may still need a custom spring rate to compensate for extra weight. Stock height suspension & may be a 1” body lift depending on tire clearance. From what I can tell lifting these IFS trucks kills articulation on an already limited platform. I’ll tub for tire clearance. Going to try & take a minimalistic approach to bumpers & accessories also.

Looks stock height to me. Hub center to bottom of the fender flare is right around 20" for stock. I think the '01 were some of the shorter/lower versions offered.

May be, I thought it has a little lift. I’ll compare with a stock truck ASAP
