2020 Pricing

Last Thursday, Toyota opened their 2020 4Runner build site. I was in contact with my dealership that day to order a new 2020. My dealer places orders on the 25th of the month so I had a few days to get things sorted out. Today I went by the dealership and firmed up the order. Here's the pricing information I was given on the 2020 ORP. On each row, the first number is the dealer cost and the second is the MSRP.

2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium 2020
Invoice MSRP
Base Vehicle $37,796 $42,470
Classic Silver Metallic
Black TRD Off-Road Softex Interior
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System $1,505 $1,750
Moonroof $541 $630
Keep It Wild Promotion $(435) $(750)
Delivery/Processing/Handling $1,175 $1,175
T.M.F. $1,100
Base Vehicle Holdback $897
PIO Holdback
Financial Reserve $449
Invoice $43,028 $45,275

Actual Dealer Cost $41,682

I know some of this information is specific to the model and options I ordered but I thought it might be useful to those thinking about a new 2020. By the way, your dealer should be willing to share this with you. Ask them to run a Vehicle Inquiry on the model and options you want. That will show the Dealer and MSRP prices for each item.

REMEMBER - the Base Vehicle Holdback, PIO Holdback (if any) and the Financial Reserve are not costs to the dealer. That's why the actual dealer cost is less than the dealer "Invoice". Those are all "costs" that Toyota will pay the dealer when the vehicle sells. That's why a sale at "Invoice" still means profit of $1,346 ($ 897 + $ 449) to the dealer in this case.

Feeling very naive right now, but is a $1300 profit a fair profit? What is a fair & reasonable profit? I don't want to take advantage of anyone but I also am tired of being THAT buyer. Yes, I am that person who gets talked into everything and pays sticker price so I am trying to learn how to do better this time around. <G>

well, i scheduled an appointment with my local toyota dealer to see what the order process is like and to see if there is any big price difference between ordering your own and buying off the lot, ill let you know what happens.:biggrin2:
so i went and talked to the guy that does the ordering..
it takes 8-12 weeks to get it if you order it and it could take longer depending on what day of the month the order is placed.
most of the accessories are installed at the port after the vehicle gets off the boat. the guy said it was done that way to cut down on tariffs.
toyota will not install a trd product at the factory on a non trd model. but the dealer of coarse will!!
you cannot get the sr5 premium with cloth seats or the TRD OFP with cloth seats.
over the phone i was told a $1k deposit was required, then when i went to the dealer, $200 will get the ball rolling.
the dealer had the capability to look at whats coming on the boat and actually find something very similar to what i am looking for and do a dealer trade while the vehicle is at port and have other accessories added there for you.
i think i will just look around the local (and extended) inventory and hopefully ill find what i want

so, i have been looking around in the Los Angeles area and the best so far for me has been at Carson Toyota. i actually got three quotes. this is what they are.
2020 TRD ORP msrp of 46621 came out to 42018. (9.8% below msrp)
2020 SR5P msrp of 43039 came out to 38857 (9.7% below msrp)
2019 SR5P 2wd msrp of 39483 came out to 34736 (12% below msrp).
these do not include tax, license or any doc work.
i went through costco and i was referred to toyota of downtown L.A. and have not heard from them.

2020 TRD Pro

I've been searching the LA basin for a green TRD Pro but I cant even get a dealer to quote me a price. They say these sell for a premium of 5 to 15k over list price of about 52k. I told them that I wouldn't pay over list (in cash) and none were willing to sell. Am I being unrealistic?

It is probably due to the demand in your area. If you are able to travel some to get one you might look further out. I'm in Virginia and have been looking at dealers in my area and North Carolina for a TRDORP, but check out the pros too, and have seen them listed for MSRP on their sites. I don't know if they sold for MSRP or any off, but they are listing them at MSRP.
Maybe after demand dies down some in your area? Anyhow, good luck in your search!

Good afternoon all,

I’m new to the forum and new to the world of Toyota. I saw this post about pricing and I’d figured i could run the number I was provided by the dealer by you all for some feedback.

I’m being offered an OTD price of $38,100 for:

2020 TRD Off Road Not the premium.

Let me know what y’all think.

I appreciate it and apologize if I should have posted elsewhere.

Do you really need a new car? Toyota’s hold their value very well because they’re so reliable. If it were me I’d search for a used one. As long as it’s been maintained the mileage won’t really matter. I’d also avoid car dealers like the corona virus. I regularly search eBay motors and iseecars.com to see what deals are out there by owners. Just my $.02. Good luck. ^.^
