2020 Running Lights - On/Off Setting

Great news! New owners of the 2020MY with the new head unit have an option to turn on or off the DRL independently of the headlight switch, which means it’s now possible to run parking/marker lights without the DRL on. Even with the headlight switch set to DRL and the setting in the head unit set to OFF, the DRL will remain off. Previously, to run parking/marker lights without the DRL, the only option AFAIK was to alter the wiring or wiring harness.

The setting is located in: MENU > Setup > Vehicle > Vehicle Customization > Lights Settings

Ignition must be in the ON position to access these menus.

In my 2014, I have the option to turn on/off DRL using the headlight switch.

Did it become an 'always on during the day' thing with later years?

I updated my original post with more details. This feature allows the newer 5th gens to run the amber running/parking/marker lights with the DRL off, previously as I understand it the only way to do that was a wiring modification. That was going to be my first mod but a tap of the finger is much easier!

On the 2020 with the safety sense is the inside rear view mirrow screw accessible easily if it ever gets loose or camera cover blocks it?

People use just their parking lights?

Yes, especially when you have led highbeams since they are the same as the drl

You can get the DTRL specific kit that works as both high and DTRL.

Are there any other customizable screens then what you showed?

Yeah there’s a lot of options. See the head unit owners manual here: https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/docu...f/OM35B57U.pdf

Specifically page 18:

I prefer the look of the side ambers in daylight or early evening. DRL is safer, but if I was mostly interested in safety I wouldn’t have purchased a 4Runner.

I have this on my 4RL and have no issues running DRL with the LED. I don’t know why you would want to switch them off. [emoji2373]

2020 owner here. Confirmed yup..you can disable DRL on the big screen vehicle screen settings.

And inside rear view mirror screw not covered like on the 2017 corolla SE !!

Amazing 4 runner. Everything solid.

Any plans to install a set of amber Raptor grille lights in your TRD Pro grille swap? I’m not keen on the idea that these are a spin-off from the Raptor, but like you, I prefer the front Amber lights. I also think they actually catch people’s attention in a good way during inclement weather and limited visibility.

I’ve been looking at the below set (smoked amber w/ 4 lights), as their website says it is compatible for the ‘20s:

4Runner Raptor Light Kit Amber LED – Overland Depot

I like the idea of the 3 light set-up which locates them in the center of the upper grille; however, they seem very bulky and obvious. I prefer the low profile look of the 4 light set-up and the smoked lenses should keep them matching our MGM until they are on. Thoughts?
