Aftermarket Stereo

I want to replace my JBL synthesis unit with a digital media receiver, more than likely a Sony. My question is do I need specific wiring harness or adapters to ensure steering wheel controls work and the factory amps for the speakers?

Yes you will need adapters at least for steering wheel controls. You can hard wire the rest if you choose, but an adapter makes more sense.

Be aware that adapters do not power then antenna booster and usually the instructions make no mention of this. If you want to hear AM/FM radio stations do some searching on that. It makes all the difference in the world.

I believe that the PAC RadioPRO does turn on the diversity amp. I have one in my 2003 and I was getting nothing from the AM radio until I did the latest firmware update which, according to PAC, fixed an issue with the diversity amp turn on. It does the JBL amp turn on plus steering wheel controls, as well, in one box.

Yes, you will need 2 harnesses. 1 for the steering wheel and 1 for the JBL amp.
If you go to Crutchfield and put in your vehicle information, they will have a list of accessories you will need for your install.
I recently installed the Sony XAV-AX5000, is this what you are looking for?

Hey, I was confused on what harnesses I need, I was looking to buy a Pioneer DMH-W2770 NEX headunit to replace my OEM radio. I do not have JBL or RDS on my 2004 SR5 4Runner V8. Thank you for your help!

I put my vehicle information in Crutchfield: Car Stereo and Audio, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, TVs website and they had the harness information for my 4Runner.
