OEM brake mileage.
 

Folks,
I just replaced both front and rear brakes on out '16 4Runner. I have 275/70R17s on there so a mild upsizing and no lift.... yet... The brakes were low at inspection and the local independent shop that I actual trust confirmed. The rotors were also tuned and I believe from driving it around at least one was slightly warped as I got the pulsing on braking.

My wife drives this truck. I feel that she does not understand the concept of NOT slamming your brakes on at every single red light and stop sign and that you should maybe prepare to stop when you see traffic slowing..... However she maintains she is the best driver ever to be licensed.. ;)

The 4Runner had 45K miles on it and we're replacing brakes. My FJ Cruiser has 108K miles, 305s on it and I still have the original OEM brakes it came with in 2010!!

What kind of mileage are you folks seeing our of the OEM brakes? Am I just being a jerk as usual? Is the FJ really just some magical beast that never wears out? :)

Your wife's style of braking will kill pads and it sounds like that isn't going to change.

Be grateful for her other fine qualities which I'm sure she has.

My Wife, Maria Andretti.....can and has killed a set of front pads in 12K! She drives it as if EVERY road were Laguna Seca............

45K mile on brakes is normal pad replacing when driving in traffic .
cutting rotors is IMO N/G... rotors when cut will get distorted because of metal loss. I never cut my rotors in 50 yrs ...waste of $$$ and more loss of use.
I replace my rotors at 10yr or when the rotor has rust blisters on the surface.

:wow: Sounds about right. My wife doesn't drive that fast, but everything is full pedal, be it brakes or gas.

92k and I could have gone longer.......

Got 96k out of my first set, I’m still going on the second. (Nearing a total of 150k miles on my truck)

95k the rears were starting to squeak

I just sold my 2010 with 145k (bought a 2018) with original pads on it. New owner is a buddy and he got new ones put on.
Dealership said they “were in bad need of changing” at 65k.

I can relate, my “X” did the exact same thing and could not be reasoned with. Notice I said “X”.
I have 45k on my OEM’s and a shop I trust says I’m about 25% down, so not even close yet. I agree with those that don’t turn their rotors. Always had warping problems sooner or later so just replace, not that expensive and the peace of mind is worth it to me.

looks like those pads are not used much .. no traffic in your area every day ... In my area eastern massachusetts it is a traffic mess.. so 45K driving to work on the hyways to from Boston is brake wear at lower miles.

Sounds about right. My wife has mastered F1 style late braking. The pads on her '16 were needing replaced at 45k. I put a set of EBC pads on. They are super thick and barely slide in. Stops on a dime now though.
Still getting a squealing sound from the brakes when applied which lead me to believe it wasn't the pads before.

Just replaced 4R pads and rotors at about 50K.
My FJ had 80K before they needed replacement.
Don't know why wear would be so different.
I drive both of them. Both have 285/70-17.

I found it was cheaper to get rid of the wife.

I would be happy to get 45k+ out of break pads on my new 4R, i have yet to replace mine but my old Ford Expedition was lucky to get 30k out of them.
