Fresh Coffee Kit for the Trail
Wanted to share a really cool everyday carry I put together for my 5th Gen: A road coffee kit.
Goal: Be able to pull over and make awesome pour-over coffee -- not B.S. instant coffee, but real coffee -- on the go, either for the trails or whenever I get sick of sitting in San Francisco Bay Area traffic and need a break. What's in the Kit: 1) A hand-crank coffee grinder and a jar for beans. I went with this awesome little grinder: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/UN...m=w903-h677-no 2) A backpacking stove and fuel to heat up your water on the side of the road: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QD...4=w903-h677-no 3) A light-weight pour-over cone, filters, and a pot to heat your water in. For the cone I went with this guy: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/qv...h=w903-h677-no 4) Finally, a mug, a can of condensed milk for creamer (if you're into that), a spoon to stir, and some baggies for your used coffee filter once you're done (unless you're planning to toss on the side of the road): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/KV...4=w903-h677-no 5) A bag to throw everything into. I used this really cool mil spec mesh bag from Raingler: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d0...S=w903-h677-no And here's the set up in action. Really fun excuse to pull off, take a break, and pop open the hatch for some fresh coffee: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LO...8=w920-h634-no |
Very nice. I have a similar style grinder. As far as that style of pour over goes I found that I almost always had cold coffee. I went with one of these and have been very happy. Keep in mind I'm almost always in the mountains in Colorado so mornings are always chilly to cold. And I hate cold coffee too

I also grind my coffee before hand and vacuum seal it before my trip... These are my leftovers for reference.. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...008868d1bc.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Dude that's a perfect morning kit right there, bacon, tooth brush, Hawaiian roles. To top it off, that wilco/detours could possibly double as a morning shit can if you position yourself accordingly.

Ah yes the moka. I have the same one, bought in Italy when we lived there. Nice enough for two people, plenty for one, and makes a damn strong cup. I used mine on a campfire griddle plate a few times but i really need a small propane heater. |
